Couch25k wk2 run2

Today my thighs were a bit stiff and I had an ache at the top of my left leg. Ended up doing a slow jog, definitely not a run ! I don’t want to do what I usually do - try something different, get all enthusiastic and O-T-T and injure myself. This short interval training appeals to me and I was given a Garmin and I like being able to monitor my progress. Actually it was a Zumba class that led me to couch25k. The class and instructor were brilliant but within 10 mins of starting I was breathless, after 4 classes I thought that I needed to build up my stamina, slow but sure. I’ve been retired for 6 years and am “on the go” most days, but not “cardio” workout. I felt bad when as a granny I found it difficult running after the children. I look back to the times when I was the games captain at school, yes my memory can stretch that far! Pointless looking back, I need to do this, I want to be fit. It’s encouraging reading everybody else’s story and I’d like join in that journey. Thanks to anyone who’s read this!

Not wanting to disrespect the Garmin, they’re great... but right now it cannot show you how you are progressing. It’s not about pace... it’s about running. You may call it jogging... that’s running. Slow running is the best way to develop fitness and endurance... fast running is the best way to get injured as you have no option but to run further and further on the programme. Relax and “jog” this. You’re completing runs... that means you’re progressing and thus you are doing well. You’re not that school kid... you’ll never be that fast again... but in time you’ll be able to run much further than back then.

Slow is good. Take it from a true Snail who has made it through to start Week 8. You will do it as long as you meet the 2 key conditions: 1) get out the door, and 2) don’t rush! 😄. You’ll find lots of good cheer from this forum. Welcome. 👍👏🏼

Hiya, does it matter if it takes longer than 9 weeks?

Certainly not. The plan is flexible so just fit it in as you can. Three runs per week is optimal but many take longer as life gets in the way, or they feel the need to repeat runs.
