Week 6 complete, but...

I’ve achieved week 6 so far, and I’m really pleased with running 25mins non-stop, however, I have yet to experience “Runners High” yet. I wondered if it actually exists or is it actually a myth?!?

Some folk say they experience this, some not... some just get the lovely relaxed feeling of the run and completion...I have an excited feeling every time I prepare for a run... setting out my gear.. I get the butterfly tum just before I set off... and the runs, even the wet, windy cold and muddy ones are a joy... what I see, and smell and feel and hear part of every run I do... and after... the remembering of the run.. the writing down in a post or my diary log... a good feeling... :)

Well done you... relax into these lovely longer runs now . look around and let it all wash over you... let the legs find their happy pace and see what happens:)

I definitely get a runners high - not always and usually when I've pushed myself quite hard. I just smile for about 20 minutes! :) But very often, nothing.

For me there’s two runners highs... one during the run and one after... the one before rarely comes for me when I’m increasing the distance... the one after comes with the pride of completing a run, especially a tough one. So, it may not be coming now, but it will eventually.

Great job on week 6, enjoy week 7

Hello Pearljamrob, Well done on completing week 6! 🏃🏻🎉 I note that you are really pleased to have completed it, may not be "Runners High”, but it sounds good and positive. I also noticed that in one of your posts you mentioned being disappointed to miss a run, so that sounds like you are building some sort of on going relationship with running.

Like Oldfloss says we are all different. I don't think that I am a "Runners High” every run person by a long long way. In fact I felt rather flat when I first completed C25k. At that time, lots of folk on here gave me lots of ideas to think about, like why am I running anyway? For me it is a way of improving my fitness and general health. I also felt that I had to keep going as I spent a lot on my running shoes and I had to justify them! Now that my husband has bought me a running watch, I shall have to keep running to justify that too!

I have ventured out to different and longer routes I am blessed to live in a lovely area, so tend to treat my runs as sight seeing in lovely scenery. I do love the feeling of my body working well as I run along enjoying the great out doors with lovely views. I had particular highs when I completed my first Parkrun, a ridiculous run that left me drenched (it wasn't raining when I started out) and when I completed my first 10k. I have now realised that there are all sorts of different goals to think about, which I would be doing if I hadn't managed to damage my hamstring on Wednesday!

I think mainly I just want to run three times a week as a routine to keep fit and healthy, any highs along the way are a bonus.

All the very best for your onward running journey! 😊🏃🏻
