W4 r1 do I?

I am supposed to do my first run of week 4 today. I’ve not been well with a head cold, cough and tight chest. I’m still not 100% better - still coughing and tightness in chest. Would you give the run a go anyway? I’m worried with it being a step up with the amount of running and I don’t want to put myself off with a bad run.

One rule of someone’s thumb is that if the symptoms are above the neck, run, if they are below the neck, don’t. I tend to be a bit gung ho about these things but have suffered as a result! So I’d say rest, but if you are going to run, take it really really slowly and listen to your body. There nothing gained by burning yourself out when unwell...

Go, but make sure you’re well hydrated and take it slow. Go out to investigate the run and your fitness, not to conquer. If you have to repeat, that’s ok. Some runs take more than one attempt, for a whole load of reasons, which is why there’s a repeat facility in the programme. Remember the First Rule of C25k: The only run you fail is the run you don’t go for ! Enjoy getting out there again and see how it goes x

I’m considering doing the run in the treadmill instead - a compromise maybe?? What do you think? Weather not look g good here today with weather warning for rain and high winds so treadmill might be best option.

To be fit enough to cope with strenuous physical effort requires your body to be in the best possible condition............to actually enjoy that physical effort again requires you to feel well at the outset.

My approach, based on some dismal runs undertaken while under the weather, is to wait until I am fully recovered before running.

........okay, I am a wimp, but I like to enjoy my running.
