Stress fracture?

So after 20+ years of non running decided to start this on Monday. Did it on hard footpath which at times is bit stoney. I also have elhers Danlos hypermobility type so use to frequent injuries from nothing but this is different. About run 6 my foot really started to hurt but I carried on. Foot is agony, hurts to stand on it, hurts when not standing on it. Went to gp on thursday who did Ottawa test which was positive, he was convinced it was fractured so sent me for X-ray as he said that would be quicker than going to a+e which his computer told him I should do. X-ray showed nothing, just told if still hurts in couple of weeks see gp. Pain is 5th metatarsal. Can’t walk on outside of foot as hurts, hurts to walk on inside of foot not only because of that pain but it’s streching ligament in arch of foot. Has anyone had experience of this and how did you solve it.

X rays show up any abnormality issue... but it needs an MRI to clarify whether it is a stress fracture..I was 10 weeks from initial x ray until MRI results.. which showed up three very very old stress fractures..

We are not medical experts and though we expect normal aches and pains at this very early stage.. real pain is a cause of concern... Maybe go and see a Sports Physio... they will be able to help I feel sure:)

Hi. Stress fractures do not normally show up on initial

X-ray . This is because they are caused by stress and not by trauma which disrupts the bone . They show up at about 3 weeks later , when on X-ray you can see the bone healing . There is a ligament attached to the end of the 5th metatarsal which may well be sprained / stressed especially of you have an existing condition . Definitely be careful . Go back to GP, see if you can get physio referral. They are excellent, and will advise if any further investigations needed or treatment. Good luck.
