I had been really good and rested a sore foot for a week but have been impatient to get back out. Today I thought I would try - the foot was only a bit achy. I managed the first 5 minute run but the foot started hurting on the 8 minute run. I walked for a bit and then ran again - and got to the end. I ran a bit longer to make up for the walking bit - I hope that is not cheating. BUT I think I am going to have to have 2 days rest before I try again. I really am hoping that my foot sorts itself out - it is just above the arch. I have tried looking it up on all sorts of sites but am none the wiser really. Anyway - I haven't given up yet. Should I go back or go on next time?
Week 6 Run 1 (sort of): I had been really good... - Couch to 5K
Week 6 Run 1 (sort of)
Two or three days rest is not a problem - even the occasional week between runs doesn’t seem to affect fitness, and sometimes you even come back stronger. Personally I would repeat the run you’ve just done once your foot has improved, but if you feel you’ve covered the requirements then try the next and see how it goes x
I'm having two or three rest days as standard, more if I feel any twinges. I'm finding that way I feel fully ready to tackle the run without worrying I'm doing damage to my dodgy back and ankles.
I don't want to get out of the habit but yes 2 or even 3 days in between probably sounds better than doing too much and having to take a week! (which is what I have already managed to do)thanks for the reply
I know what you mean about the habit, but it's just a slightly less frequent habit! I'm finding I'm usually ready to go again after two rest days, and almost twitching after three, so I suspect the habit is getting well and truly there!
You've done so well getting this far, not worth jeopardising all that.
Well done.
Each workout makes you stronger, but there is little point in ticking off a workout if you are not sure you actually completed it.........
If the foot pain persists then the next port of call is a GP or physio.
Take care.
Well done mafee - both for getting out there and for letting your foot dictate the pace. I feel your frustration! As for ticking off runs, I don’t know about you, but I’m finding it’s becoming less and less about ticking off another section and more about the learning journey... sure, we all want to graduate, but the 9:3 run (hopefully) is just a little way past the start, not the finish... this all sounds very zen, I know how rubbish injuries are and I’m not brilliant at taking time out - but I have learned (through climbing) that it is better to rein it in/slow down/rest. Pushing through with injuries just results in coming to a juddering stop. Anyways, not sure I’m making sense, but take care of that foot and perhaps let how it feels dictate which run you do next?
