Starting Again!

Hi, I tackled the couch to 5k two years ago and did ok, completing a charity run. However a spell of ill health and knee pain stopped me progressing so now I’m beginning again.

In the meantime I have also gained a stone so I’m focusing on improving my diet and general activity levels as well.

Off for my first run this morning!

Managed to get around although trying desperately to avoid the running segments coinciding with hilly bits. The only way is up! :)

Oh yes, I had to do that too! On the plus side, if you do run uphill from the beginning you will find you are a lot faster when you switch to the flat. 😊

Hi Scarlet48, glad to hear you are giving it another go! I too gained weight when I quit smoking. I was 11 stone 6lbs when I left the hospital and shot up to 14 stone 3lbs in only a few months.

I decided to challenge myself to a 10-day juice fast after watching a video on youtube. This helped me to lose 16lbs in weight. I then decided to maintain a healthier lifestyle, cutting out junk food, I have since converted to a whole food plant-based diet. Most people shudder when I tell them this, believing life without meat and dairy is unthinkable.

I can honestly say that I now love the food I eat.

I am drinking a juice as I type this reply, I started another 10-day juice fast today. Good luck with the 5k challenge, I have to say, I did my first run yesterday and found it very difficult, hoping tomorrows run will be a little easier, although I have read many posts saying the opposite.

Hi Shane, I admire you managing the juice fast, I would find that really difficult.

I have always gone to the gym but never found running easy so I'm hoping this time around I can crack it.

The biggest benefit for me last time was psychological, it gave me confidence and a new lease of life.

Keep persevering, you'll get there.

Well done for getting back to it. I’m also struggling with injury/ sickness 🙄. Makes you feel rubbish but at least your getting back in the saddle. I think that’s the saying 😂. Keep us updated won’t you?
