Anyone starting C25K as New Year’s Resolution and want to buddy up?
I really want to stick at it and do it properly - is like to lose a couple of stone but mainly I am attracted by the stress relieving and mental health benefits.
Any tips gratefully received!

Welcome.... I feel sure, if past years are anything to go by, you will be the first of many starting this now...We are, at Admin preparing for the rush!!
Please do check out the link... there is a great deal of useful advice there. The mental and physical benefits of this plan are immeasurable...link the plan with a healthy eating regime and you may find that you do lose weight too.
Keep posting for terrific support and advice... it would be great if a few people respond.. you can get your own little team together all supporting each other each week...we have had similar in the past...
I am about to start my third attempt at C25K having never got beyond week 2.
The reason for my stuttered start was that I did not read the beginners guide.
Now that I have, I am more confident that this will be my final start point. It is a great programme and even after the first run I felt really good about my progress, but on week 2 both times injury kicked in. My advice is read the guide, don't run too fast, and most importantly stretch really well after your runs. Stretch should be in capitals!
Welcome and congratulations on making a great decision for your mental and physical health. The guide in the above posts contains almost all you need... so you just need to bring commitment and a dash of self belief! Weight loss may not come, running can even slow it as you build muscle, so some dietary tweaks will almost certainly be needed to shed 2 stones... but it will make you trimmer, so you’ll no doubt prefer what you see in the mirror just by the effects of running.
Enjoy your journey... it can be hard work, but it will give you all of your goals.
I hadn't planned it as a new year thing, but it's ended up like that as I found C25K just before Christmas. Got the shoes, planned the route (Not sure I will get far on it initially,) and starting today having had a week or so of some regular walking. Looking forward to knowing I have done w1r1. Off we go ...
Thanks everyone! I’ve got everything planned out. First run on Thursday before work (I go spinning on Wednesdays). Going to plan my route out today. I’ll report back after run 1 - love to hear all your experiences! Xx
I will be your buddy if you like! I’m starting officially next Wednesday evening as part of a course run by my local leisure centre.
I’ve been using the NHS app to get me going (got to W2R3 before Christmas got in the way...) but am concerned about how different running outdoors will be to what I’ve done on the treadmill so far...... 🤪
Thanks everyone for your support and advice! I completed the first run on Thursday as planned. Wasn’t too bad! Although very stiff the next day so think the impact of it was a bit of a shock to my system.
About to embark on run 2. For some reason I feel massively self conscious running in public. Like I’m not allowed to be out running because I’m a bit fat and don’t have any Sweaty betty in
How did you get on with your second run? As a veteran now (😉) I can tell you it gets easier quite quickly. Having said that, I did W3R1 this morning - a massive difference between 90 seconds running and three minutes! But I persevered, whoop 🙌 I know what you mean about being self-conscious, until about five weeks ago I’d never run in public, fearing I’d look like a giant lumbering gomper. My friend and new running buddy kept shouting at me in the gym though, and that was far more embarrassing so I just did it! And behold, no-one gave me a second glance! If it makes you feel any better, I was always secretly envious when I saw people running outside, so you go!
Hi WillsMum! I'm off on W2R3 this morning. I have to say - although i am so slow i'm almost stationary - I am really loving it. I feel amazing when i get back and i'm lucky enough to live right next to a beautiful park so its really good for the soul. I swear my ever-present anxiety is getting bit better too. There was article in Guardian last week about woman who had terrible anxiety and has written about running curing her (worth a read) so it may be true!
However, it's raining this morning and i suspect that is not going to be so good for my soul.
I've got myself into a routine of running on tuesdays, thursday and sundays. One question i had: I need to run about 6/630am on weekdays to get to work on time. Obvs its dark so i'm too scared to run in the park. How do people work around this - just stick to street lit areas?
I’ve often wondered that! I suppose you just have to run on the roads like you say. I’m similar to you in that I live near a forest - been enjoying the runs/walks with a friend but on Monday I’ll be going solo! It’s not busy in the mornings so I’m apprehensive, especially as I run to music so can’t hear anyone around me. I may have to jib out and push myself harder on the treadmill, in the hopes that it will improve my (shocking) breathing when I’m outdoors
Enjoy your run in the rain! Better that than boiling sun I say!
Did my first outdoor group run on Wednesday night and let me tell you, running on a treadmill hasn’t prepared me at all for running outdoors! What a difference!!
It was so much harder than I expected, but I pushed on through, and managed to do it again this morning.
My worry is that the leader had us doing two minute runs on week one, not the 60 or 90 seconds I expected - I’m dreading what we may have to do next week!!
