I’m new here and could do with advice!

I am really proud I have made a start, week 1 and 2 runs done. Both were challenging for me as I am not as fit as I used to be, (61 years) but I did good and was thrilled. Today should be run 3 but the inside top of my legs are so stiff and painful, I don’t think I will be able to keep up. Is it best to motor through and do as much as I can OR put the run off until it eases?

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

You have to accept some aches and pains when starting but keeping moving on your rest days, stretching after every run and keeping impact minimal while running will all help. Take an extra rest day, or two, if necessary, between runs.

Enjoy your journey.

Thank you, I appreciate your reply and yes I have now read the plan and will include the stretches from now on!

Welcome and well done getting started. There’s nothing wrong with taking extra rest days. The fitness and muscle/joint strength will come, especially with cross training.

Enjoy the journey

Thanks for replying. I read your intro, very inspirational, and sorry to see you have a recent injury, though I can see it is only a blip for you. Thanks again, I am determined to do this and will enjoy the journey (the highs and the lows).

The injury is still a positive for me... a few months ago I wouldn’t have been moving fast enough to hurt myself quite so badly 😂. I’m loving reading about people’s journeys, from people I’ve watched go through this posting about graduation to people saying hi for the first time, a little nervous about starting... that’s all the inspiration I need to keep resting the ankle and doing the exercises that I really don’t like to keep myself fit. The “injury” I had for years before doing this was a lot more serious.

Keep following the programmers. I am sure that most - if not all - of us suffered at the start of the programme. Give it a few weeks and you won’t know yourself
