Hi, after having a new hip two years ago, being in 60s, and having arthritis in both knees I never thought I would be running.

Seeing our daughter run 5 and 10 k inspired my husband and I to try to get a bit fitter. Now having lost a few pound, decided to try the couch to 5k.

First week very hard I thought, but now after 3 weeks it's getting better. Just finished first day of week 4 in the rain!! I can't believe I jogged for 5 mins non stop a few times alongside two shorter runs. Not sure how far I will manage but have entered a 2k Santa run in December.

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Enjoy your journey.

Oh Barbara, massive congratulations to you and your husband! What a brilliant achievement, I hope that you're very proud of yourselves. As someone who's only just completed week 1 I'm really inspired by your story, so thank you both! Here's to your next run and I have no doubt that you're going to smash your December 2km run xx

Welcome and great job so far guys.

That Santa run... it’s about fun... if you can’t run 2k walk some and enjoy... if you can run it but it will hurt, run half, walk and recover and then run the end. All of these events are about getting out there and having fun, so do that and smile the whole way.

Enjoy your next one.

It's really encouraging to know that you started running in your sixties. I'm 61 and overweight and thought it was too late for me. You have motivated me to try!

As we have our 2K run next weekend, we thought better step up a bit. We skipped day 2&3 of week 4 and did week 5 day 1 this morning. Not as bad as we thought it was going to be. We must be getting fitter, as not so out of breath either. Enjoyed jogging on the roadside. Hope to fit days 2&3 before Sunday run.
