Physio verdict - take it real slow!

So nearly two weeks after calf strain and Achilles pain, I’m still limping just to walk so went along to physio this morning. Fortunately , nothing dislodged but going to be a long process. Can I go back to walking? Yes but take it steady. When can I run? When your body says you’re ready and not before i.e. no pain at all. I was his second C25k patient this week with same symptoms but still he highly recommended the programme . These words resonate ‘ There’s a big difference in the strain you put on your body running rather than walking.’ Ain’t that the truth! Will be lurking on here until I’m ready to go and I WILL be ready to go but can’t risk having a serious set back purely through impatience. Good luck guys- I’ll be urging you on from the sidelines !

That’s what we pay them for... very good advice. You’ll be back, you’ll do this, you’ll run for many years... there’s no rush.

Oh bad luck purplewalker.

Physio's are amazing - do exactly what he says and hope to see you back here soon. As OldFloss says, the runs will still be here waiting for you 🙂

A couple of points - my recent visit to a very knowledgable physio - he reckoned the jumps between some weeks in Couch are sometimes too big and it is better to repeat a week with the bigger jumps if you are not 100%. Secondly, re Achilles problems - no stranger to them - the answer for me was a new pair of trainers. Older trainers degrade and you start running with an imperceptible 'limp' .

Wishing you a speedy recovery purple runner! I’m sure you’ll be a happy runner again. Until then, rest and recover and you can come back strong! 💪🏽 Best wishes! 🤗❤️

'Strain' is an unfortunate word to use. 'Impact' would be more appropriate... it's more neutral. One of the reasons to go running (as well as to take care and treat with respect) is because it has more impact.

Rough about your injuries, hope they heal soon.

Strain or impact, it hurt but I get your point. Thanks for encouragement. Happy running.

Well yes, you clearly have a strain!

Professionals often make generalisations which (unintended) lodge in people's minds as "Running (or whatever) is Bad for You" and lead to giving up.
