W5R3 - I’ve only gone and done it !!

Well that was a surprise. “Today you’ll be running for 20 minutes” says Michael. “Yeah” I thought “stick to winning Olympic medals and lay off the jokes mate ... I’ve never ran further than 8 minutes”.

But what do I know. After 3 minutes I knew I was going to do it and by the end i was really enjoying it and could have run on for at least another 5 minutes.

I think the secret is I’ve gradually dropped the speed on the treadmill each week (tonight was 5.7mph). Strangely this means I’m running the same distance as W1 but running for longer.

Good news is I have a significant birthday coming up and had promised myself that if made it to W6 (which for me was the tipping point) I would invest in some proper outdoor gear to get myself running outdoors through the cold Scottish winter. Much more interesting than looking at the inside of my garage.

All in all very happy 😃

It’s a lovely feeling when you do that 20 minutes isn’t it? It feels a bit like it was a dream afterwards. Well done you. I am sure you will love being outside once you get used to it. I have been going to my local park. Hardly ever went there before c25k - hadn’t really noticed how beautiful it is - especially at this time of year. You’d better get some warm gear sorted out though....

Well done you took it in your stride and beat it. wk5/3 was a killer for me. It was the closest I’ve come to stopping mid run. Excellent job and all the best with the rest of the plan outside in the fresh air 👍

Oh yes Rory! You’ve smashed the landmark 20 minuter. You’ve been bitten by the running bug and you’re smashing the programme! Keep believing. It’s yours for the taking! 👏👏

Great job Rory... perfect running speed for endurance building and fat burning too I hear. Bet you can’t wait to be out there freezing your butt off 😂. It’s fun outside, and you soon get warm. That 20 is a liberation and so good for the self confidence. Tricky little intervals next, keep that pace down and you’ll be just fine... you got this now.

Yep I remember feeling exactly that before the 20 min run, definitely the most surprising achievement to date! Just done the 25 mins couple of days back. Found it harder having done a couple of easier ones after the 20. Nearly gave up 20 mins in, but got over the nanosecond of deliberation thankfully. Hoorah! 🙂
