Need advice on what to wear now it's getting colder. I don't want to wear my light weight coat as I'll just roast. Do I need to buy like a base layer ? Any advice greatly received.

Running in cold temperatures
See the winter layering clothing guide I've posted.
I use compression base layers when the temperature gets below about 5 degrees, along with long sleeves and running trousers. Gloves are essential, plus a buff.
I have a windproof jacket but have only worn it once or twice to run in.
Layers are the way to go.
There is a lot of info in the web.
I am wearing head scurf (sensitive sinuses and ears), buff, long leggings, long sleeve (sportswear) or short-sleeve T-shirt + thin slong-leeve hoodie (the one I bought for hiking). When it is very cold: gloves, warm sport socks, additional sweatpants over the leggings. Several times in the past, I put a proper hat on and a jacket, when it got subzero and I was going slow and still with having walking breaks.
No idea if that helps. I think it is a little of trial and error for each of us, as we are responding to the temperatures differently. For me a must is buff and warm headband.
Depends on you, in all but the coldest weather ( but wouldn't run if it was icy) I wear a long sleeve hi-vis running top. I have a little runners rain jacket from decathlon, but would only wear a running vest under it. But I do run hot and its only half an hour.
