Finally

5k target today and wasn’t making the same mistake twice... today I would run 3.1 miles and then gradually slow so that I couldn’t miss the 5k and I was gonna push to 9:30 miles too, slightly faster than any of my runs in the plan. Beautiful day for it, and not too many leaves in the trail, a little windy, but I’ll be sheltered for much of the run.

Off and running with no music, but half mile updates. No need to stay in the park here so one circuit then out and running the outside wall round the corner and up (very very slightly up) on the pavement and back Ito the park at the other end... should have looked at the parkrun course before I left the house, but never mind.... 3 miles up, sprint the finish... and this time I just ease to a jog for a minute. Finally have my 5k PB, 29:17... very pleased and that’s the target for November.

5k is 5k, there’s no poor times, you’re running and that’s making you healthier... times will drop over time.

Wow, well done on achieving a sub 30 minute 5k, not sure if you are planning to run any parkruns any time soon, you must be very pleased with that time, tomorrow I'll be running my 3rd 5k, probably that will be sub, 35 again but I don't think that I'll be able to run sub 30.

Cheers... not really planning on attacking a park run just yet, going to follow a race plan to up stamina and speed, so I may do some runs at parkrun when they are compatible. First real attempt at parkrun will be December 23rd all being well.

Have a good run tomorrow mate.

Superb job you!! Congratulations on all your progress and accomplishments! 👏🏻👏🏻 Hopefully I will be able to break the 30 minute barrier in the next week or two.

Reply

Thanks... good luck, how close are you now to it?

I was doing the legs up the wall thing again btw, seems to help a lot.

My fastest time has been 37 so far but I did my longest run yesterday at 44 for 3.75 miles. I think I could get pretty close to 30 if I pushed myself. I’m glad legs up the wall is working for you! I do find it also helps- strange as it looks. 😂

It does... and yeah, your there or thereabouts for sure

Oh wow. Well done UNM 👍Great time 😊

No problem- I’m sure 😊

That's a great run, well done UNM!

I've still got a way to go before I get a sub 30 min 5k run, 35mins is my best time so far

I usually run 36 pace, wasn’t sure I could put my fastest run with my longest.

More seriously, I watched the Nike documentary about Kipchoge's attempt to break the two hours barrier. The mind boggles at his performance 😮

Cool... I think I have champagne on ice, but I’ll go check! Love that run... it’s emotional.... just look what you did! 60 seconds was the worst, it hurt... 30 minutes, pure impossible... but you’ve done that twice already. Go close this out.

I hope so! Feeling a bit nervous but I have found an experienced friend who is going to run behind me and give me a verbal push (and maybe a physical one!) when I need it!

That’ll be handy on any inclines! Don’t stress it, you’ll be welcomed and relaxed.
