Post grad run 3.

Off I go and thought I’d up the pace and go for 5k... it’s 3 miles right? So anything under 10 minutes a mile is my target. Off I go and all feels good, nice cool day, breeze slightly bracing... and we are on 10:20 per mile at the first mile update... cool, keeping it steady and mile two and average is 10:18, cool, time to push a little and 3 mile run is done... average 9:55 per mile... shut the app down and smile... cooldown, few stretches and I’m doing that legs up the wall thing... then it dawns on me... 5K is 3.1 miles, I’m about 528 feet short of a 30 minute 5k... maybe next time! For now I’m going to drink some apple juice and prepare for Sunday!

Kwell posted it weeks ago and I never got round to trying it... lying down with butt to wall and feet up it... looks strange but felt good.

Yeah... and apparently if you go V shaped with your legs it’s a bit of a workout too.

Good run and time for you UNM, perhaps the next time you try for that magic 30 minute 5k, Miss UNM could run along with you, they say that running with others gives you a chance for a better time.

She gets out of sync with PE as we plan her runs but then she runs in PE and has to slip her running says... and Sunday she’s doing junior parkrun, so it’s Tuesday at the earliest

Fermented apple juice per chance? ;)

Awesome run, well done. It hasn't taken you long at all after graduating to get to 5k! That's really good.

Do you know... I think they may have... they’d should warn you if they ferment it 😂

Yeah, I was pleased, next time I’ll set my app to 3.1 miles though 😂

Cheers... need to drop it about 15 seconds a mile for the 30 I think... or I could be daring and set my app to kilometres!

Next run is slow pace, but I will cover 5k on it.

I prefer kilometers to miles, if nothing else they are a bit shorter, the exception being if the run is 10 miles, a half or full marathon then it's better in miles.

UnfitNoMoreGraduate in reply to AlMorr

I work on the opposite logic... 3 is two less than 5 😂

I’ve found myself plotting 10 mile routes already... how sad is that?

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate in reply to UnfitNoMore

Not really sad UNM, I suppose that I prefer kilometers as I am consolidating running a few more 5K runs. Tomorrow morning I plan to run my third. I just like the distance in kilometres as I might, I repeat just might have ago at increasing it to 10K if I think after running a few 5ks I am ready for that.

Certainly I will never think of ever running a any longer distance than 10K🤔

My 5k plan for after Christmas does go to 16k long runs... so I may as well book a 10k race to tie in I guess 😂

Do your maths before you start running!

I remember running 14.47 k for the first time, only to realise afterwards that it was 8.99 miles.......

Metrics are pretty arbitrary, but we all get hung up on them.

Well done anyway. At least you know that 5k is very, very achievable now.

UnfitNoMore profile image
UnfitNoMoreGraduate in reply to IannodaTruffe

😂 great advice as always!

It is achievable in 30 too, just, but next run slower, so I’ll take it in 36ish and go for 30 again Thursday.

Yeah, felt like I could have done it all again, but that would’ve been possible injury territory. Now slow and steady refers to my pace most runs and my progression... but I do get to go faster once a week!
