Hi. I've been lurking on here for the past couple of weeks and have been spurred on by all the positive comments to graduate today!!!! Feel so proud of myself as for me it has been as much a mental as physical challenge. Particularly weeks 8 & 9 have been a 30 minute battle with myself about whether I can do it. Amazingly determination has won every time - something that wouldn't have happened in the past. Aptly my last 3 minutes of running today was to Don't Stop Believing by Journey!!
My big question to those more experienced runners is, when does it start to become enjoyable?! I feel great afterwards but find the duration of the run really tough.
Anyway, next challenge is to have 3 weeks of consolidation using the app still but venturing onto the pavements or treadmill. I have completed programme on playing field behind my house which has become a bit of a comfort blanket to me! I think I can only run in anti clockwise circles!!
Thanks again to all the contributors on here - you have really helped - and good luck everyone. If I can do it, a 51 year old woman with a previously very sedentary lifestyle, anyone can!

Congratulations! You are a 🏃🏻♀️. I am four weeks past graduating and I have probably only managed to run twice a week, but I am now running 5k and beginning to enjoy it. I get 5 - 10 minutes of each run that feel like everything is spot on, my breathing, gait, speed, stamina - they all come together and it feels beautiful! That sounds a bit cringeworthy but that is how it feels!
I have always done a lot of dance classes, wouldn’t think twice about chucking my shoes and a bottle of water into my bag and going. I don’t feel like that about running (yet)! I still have that doubt in my mind, that I am one bad run away from the whole thing crashing down around my ears.I think running may always be a battle of mind and body for me.
I hope than many more experienced runners come on here and say that it gets easier!
Meanwhile bask in the glory of getting to the end, that elation alone got me through the next couple of runs!
When does it start to be enjoyable?- for me the actual running has got easier and easier since graduation a month ago. When I graduated I was averaging 3.8km in 30 mins. Since then I have been consolidating and not putting any pressure on myself at all. Without really trying I've edged up to 5k in 37mins and with no ill effects. But it is the feeling at the end and afterwards that is enjoyable for me. I don't get a runner's high.
Absolutely agree with everything you said. I really don’t enjoy the run but feel great afterwards. But it’s a bloody lie about exercise giving you energy. I’m knackered all day after a run and sleep really badly as well 😂
Congratulations and well done! I’m like you.... keep everything the same! I’ve even kept the same music all the way through 😂😂 I still feel that rough section middle 10 mins then think I’ve only got 10 mins, I’m nearly there! Agree feel great afterwards and the affect of increased fitness but not fallen in love with the actual running part yet... happy running 🏃♀️
