Hi - what running app does everyone use? I use Strava but over the last couple of weeks it hasn’t tracked my route/distance/time accurately (and yes I did press the “starting route” button 😂) .

Hi. I use Strava. What I did notice when I first started using it that If I had battery saver on my phone it didn't record correctly

Battery save mode does what it says on the tin. GPS is the biggest drain on a phone’s battery, yes it gets hit big time. I have a walking GPS receiver and I’ve been through 3 sets of batteries on one walk before now... so about 6 iPhone/Samsung batteries.

Tracking issues are the fault of the device more than the app. Full reboot of the device pre run and then waiting for gps to come good helps but then it can go again without notice. It’s a fault in assisted gps, which at other times can be a plus. A full gps device is the answer, which is why the watches do better. Phones will catch up and some are better than others.

That said, I use Nike Run Club as it does more for a runner, including using its sister app, Nike Training club, as part of its plans, which are free, unlike Strava. Nike does not, however, allow you to show the world your run in its own domain, you can share to facebook and other social media. Depends what you want from an app, and others are available, but all are only as strong as the device they run on.

I use MapMyRun. I found it simple to set up and it gives me all the stats I need. I use the free version which is perfectly adequate for me. 😀 I have my playlist attached to it, so no need to have more than one app running now I’m no longer using C25K so I guess that saves on battery.

I was pleased to discover it was accurate too, as when I used it at parkrun it beeped 5k right at the end! I have an iPhone 8 and have no issues with GPS, which I know can be an issue with any app. 👍🏻😀

Thank you for all the replies - I’m abit of a technophobe so will look at the battery saving “thing” and the other apps you have mentioned. Have a great day x

I use Endomondo. Seems pretty good. I upgraded to pay £22 or so for the year, which let me programme in bespoke intervals, and choice of how often to update me on distance run, time, pace, expected finished time etc. A huge motivator and also tracks my walks, bike rides, hikes, yoga, weight training, swimming etc :) xx
