Currently working my way through a 4 week plan (after not doing any running over the summer) in preparation for a 5k in - oddly enough - 4 weeks time.
Today I had to run 1km.
That’s ONE km folks!
Could I do it without incident?
No, I could not.
I was happily running through the woods, on one of our regular routes, with the dogs running around in the undergrowth, when I remembered I’d have to negotiate a gate, which I’d normally have done BUT today someone had a pitched a tent right beside the path in the field beyond. I didn’t know what my young dog would make of a tent that has never been there before, so I turned right and joined the dogs on a narrower, more ‘technical’ trail through the trees. Which turned out to be my downfall - pun totally intended.
I tripped over a tree root, and landed heavily, flat out, on a few more of the blasted things. It’s been a long time since the last time that I’ve wanted to stay down on the ground after a fall, but I was feeling slightly sick so I stayed down for a bit then got up onto my knees. At which point I realised there was a mountain biker coming up behind me, so I shouted out to let him know I was there and - bless him - he braked to halt to make sure I was okay. Which I was by then*. I even managed to slow jog the second half of my 1k(!) after a brief walk.
*I haven’t even scraped my knees or hands particularly much. Though my stomach area feels very tender.
