Completed my first run of week 4 and had really bad tightening of both legs. Not like cramp almost like my legs were seizing up. Maybe I need oiling or something... anyway what I wanted to know was is this normal?!
Despite the slight twinges from muscles I never knew existed, I am genuinely amazed by how much progress I've made in just over 3 weeks.

Was it after the run? During the walks, on the cooldown? Later? Are you doing the post run stretches?
I find my calf muscles tighten on the walks if I slow it down, so I walk as fast as I can and then run as slowly as I can... which is a strange thing to watch I’d imagine!
Well done getting through it... you’re doing great.
It was when I slowed down after the first five minute run. I am doing the stretches before and after the sessions. Maybe it's just my legs screaming at me to stop..
Are you doing the right stretches before? The post run static ones are not recommended before you run and can lead to injury... you need dynamic stretches towards the end of your warm up, if anything. That’s slightly off topic, but worth mentioning. Are you walking fast enough? The walks need to keep those muscles warm. You’re better sacrificing running pace than walking pace while you get fitter. Your legs will resist this new job you’re making them do... but that’s no need to stop, they’ll get used to it.
I can see now where I'm going wrong. I ran quite fast in my first five minute run then the walk wasn't brisk and I slowed right down. I'll have to get a better understanding of the stretches and warm up/downs. Thank you for your help.
Slow and steady... it’s about preparing for and getting through week 9... distance covered won’t change your life as much as running 30 minutes. I’m looking forward to the no walking bits as I do struggle sometimes to walk fast enough. We shall soon be there! Hope the pointers help you on your journey.
