Last weekend a contingency of truly bonkers people descended on our Dartmoor village. They met here, climbed aboard a bus and were taken away, but not to the local [and closed] 'lunatic asylum' as it was unfortunately called in its Victorian day, but to far-flung villages across the moor. These barmy people then ran back to our village hall.
The main run was a mere 34 miles over real Dartmoor countryside with steep climbs, tortuous descents and real - in orienteering terms - fight. OK, it 'only' had 900m of ascent, but that is enough!
Then winning time was under 4 1/2 hours.
I wonder if any former C25K runners competed?
If anyone fancies a challenge, then we have the Wild Night Run (10 miles) and the Mild Night Run (5 miles) on 9th Feb next year... I marshall - I don't run it - yet!
I’ll raise glasses to you all on the way round... I’m doing a boozy run. I also have a friend who has challenged me to a chunder mile... should be good practice!
Wow, amazing! But much as I love Dartmoor more than anywhere on the planet, running over the moor would be hideous!!!! I struggle walking up those tors! 😅
The Tors are great, but as we have hundreds of them getting all of them would be difficult... however, Little, Middle and Great Staple Tor and their friends of Roos and Cox Tor makes a great walk or run. Just up from Tavi.
