Keep running?

Hi everyone, I’ve had a virus for the past four or five weeks (ear infection, sickness etc) and I have carried on running 3 times as week. Should I carry on as this virus isn’t going away so am I making it worse and should just have a rest or should I carry on? I will feel guilty if I rest. I feel very conflicted!!! 😖

See a doctor, get it fixed, then pick up your running again. Hopefully the right drugs will see it off in a week or so, and you can start again where you left off. Absolutely no need to feel guilty.

If you've managed up to now why not carry on. However, any illness that goes on for that long perhaps you should see the doc, just in case.

I don’t see the point of running if you are unwell 🤧

It seems a bit miserable to me. Treat yourself to a few days off and be kind to yourself

I also think trying to see a doctor is s good plan 👩‍⚕️

Doctor for meds and advice... part of me is thinking fitness helps the immune system, the other bit is thinking the immune system needs lots of energy to fight the virus.

That’s my thinking as well. Keeping fit will help me feel better quicker although it doesn’t seem to have worked so far!!

Thanks for the replies guys. I’ve already seen the doctor and they said it was viral so just wait for it to get better on it’s own. I’m just not sure if I’m helping or hindering by carrying on.

Take a week off. You won’t lose fitness in that time.

Yes. I had a better run after a week off with a swollen ankle. I think it gave my muscles time to rebuild. You've tried running through it and it's not working, so why not try a week off and see if that helps?
