Hello all. I have just completed week 6 run 2 today but not looking forward to the next run for 25 minutes. Not because I don't think I can do it but because the last couple of runs my legs have really ached and I have suffered afterwards with my knees. Anyone else have the same problem or any advice. Ta very much ☺
Bad Knee's : Hello all. I have just completed... - Couch to 5K
Bad Knee's
Are you stretching well after every run... and warming up really well too?
Try to land very lightly... these longer runs are made for slow, relaxed running. I call it kissing the ground with your feet, when you land
Try these exercises too..many folk find them really helpful!
Are you wearing proper running shoes fitted after a gait analysis done at a specialist running shop? If not that may be contributing.
Slow down, avoid heelstriking, keep footfall under your body not out in front, run on grass or treadmill .......all help reduce the impact.
I have got running shoes but not properly fitted ones as I was only just starting out and wasn't sure how I would get on.
I will have a look at my footfall on the next run. Thinking about it my weight is probably a big factor as I am very overweight at the moment and it must be putting a strain on my knees. Hopefully things will ease as I loose some weight and if I graduate maybe get some fitted running shoes to celebrate.
Thank you for your advice 🙂
Hello,
I had similar problems once getting into the later runs.
I had a pre-existing knee condition from years ago which didn’t usually trouble me, but I found my knee starting to ache from about Week 4 onwards. It got so my knee was hurting the next day and it was even getting difficult to walk on it. I am also carrying a bit of extra lumber!
I bought some knee supports from Amazon. I only wear one on my left knee whilst running, and it seems to have done the trick. I got these, but others are available 🙂

I would also make sure you are warming all your muscles and joints up before beginning - you don’t want to over stretch and make the muscles hurt, but just stretch and move your ankles/knees/hips until your legs begin to feel warm from the inside.
Hope that helps! Good luck.
I have had knee problems since W8R3 and not yet managed W9R1 2 weeks later. I have not had chance to get a gait analysis and good running shoes, but I really intend to this coming weekend. I'm hoping that will help. Until then, I must get into regular stretches targeting the knees. I hope you find an answer.
I'm trying these knee strenthening that oldfloss sent me the link too here it is if you didn't see it: nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/k... I'm hoping after a couple of weeks this will help.
It's so frustrating isn't it. Hope you manage to get back into the programme. Let me know if proper shoes/gait analysis helps for you. 🙂
