Can I get motivated

I hate running but believe this programme works so living in hope. Fed up of being a couch potato šŸ˜Š whilst watching the pounds increasing so decided it's time to get out there. Any tips for a complete beginner of 52? āœ”

Donā€™t delay - get out there! Set your 3 running days each week and stick to them. And slow down and slow down again as the runs get longer. Enjoy it! It works!

I am the same age and was a complete beginner. I am now going into week 6 so still a little way to go, but am really enjoying it. Within a couple of runs I was hooked!

Trust the programme it really does work, be active in this community, they are a great bunch and you pick up some great advice and support, when running take it easy - nice and slow and m9st importantly enjoy!!

It works - it really doesšŸ˜Š

I thought I'd never get past wk 1 - was so unfit- but here I am still going and loving it. If you had told me I'd be running 6 wks ago I would have laughed- but it has given me such a boost from being able to progress through the plan. It's a shock to the system at first but an amazing feeling as you tick those runs off one by one. Good luck - you can do this. šŸ˜Š

You can totally do it. If you get the app then all you have to do is follow the instructions and if you start to struggle just go slower because all that matters is that you are out there doing something instead of sitting in front of the TV. It's so satisfying seeing the weeks go by and your running increasing and improving. If you get an app that maps your progress you can see things like how many hours of activity you've done that month which is also really rewarding.

I thought I couldnā€™t do it. Just completed W4R3, had high blood pressure and asthma. I went on a low carb diet to shed some pounds in April until I felt ready to run. Blood pressure is now normal, meds reduced and I have lost 30lbs. Feel twenty years younger. Go for it! Oh yeah- Iā€™m 58 and havenā€™t run since my mid twenties.

Fantastic and well done. Next step is a low carb diet.

Thanks for all the encouragement. I've downloaded the app, got my fitbit charged and planning my first walk/run tomorrow. Woohoo, I can do this šŸ¤£

Your half way there as you sound like you have the motivation to start the programme! I am nearly finished week 8. I am overweight andIā€™ve managed to run now for 28 minutes non stop. That is what will motivate you when you start - that you will see the progression every week. I have tried running before but couldnā€™t get the breathing right so gave up. Couch to 5k builds this up and you feel such a sense of achievement as your runs get longer. The great thing is you can do this at whatever time suits you - no need for gyms, classes, team mates. Go for it!

Welcome to the forum.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

You will need to adjust your mental approach..........if you hate doing something then you will not persist and all the effort and maybe pains will just reinforce your prejudice..........you may well enjoy this if you do not push too hard and have a positive attitude towards this amazing, truly life changing little training plan.

You can do this.

If you hate running itā€™s not going to be easy without a complete u-turn in mind set

Change is what itā€™s all about though ! Change of habits. Bad ones, that hold us back and keep us lethargic and overweight

So, out with the old and in with the new. Move forward with a new purpose and can-do attitude. Go kick itā€™s ass šŸ’ŖšŸ˜ƒ
