Going to gym as a comparison

I'm going to the gym treadmill to run a full 5K because I have no idea how far I'm actually running as I always run outdoors but have no GPS. I wonder if I'll be pleasantly surprised how well I do or horribly shocked at how bad I really am. !! :). Haha.

Funny you should say that I was considering this as I always run a bit lol faster in the gym on treadmill as it’s easier than rough terrain and inclines. We also have a sports track near the gym which I was going to check out and see if that makes any difference or if I really am just a slow coach xx

I find treadmill and outside very different, and do better outside. For some people the opposite applies and they do better on the treadmill.

If you're curious about your distance outside, you could do a simple out and back route and use one of several online route mapping sites to see how far you've gone. They are also good for planning routes in advance

I find this one the easiest to use: gb.mapometer.com/

I measured the path I run on mapmywalk 2.5K from the car park. If I want to know how long it takes me to run the 5K I'll just be able to time myself. When I get to that stage anyway! I'm on week 6 and running on lovely flat paths, probably won't start any measuring/timing until I get nearer the end. I used a treadmill for just the second time today but I find it so oddly different. My calves get crampy but I don't get as out of breath. I have to concentrate not to fall off (it has a small running area) and I can't walk when I get off as my balance is completely gone haha! It is definitely just going to be backup for me I think!

Considering the effort I put in, I seem to go slower in the gym. I don’t know why. I do know that I am saturated after 5k though as no air to dry, despite the AC!
