Am so cross with myself for not buying a Garmin Forerunner 35 in the Amazon Prime sale as it was seriously reduced.
I waivered because I thought, being on Wk9, I'm not a proper runner yet, I haven't caught the bug (only ran outside twice so far and whilst I think I enjoyed it, it was bl**dy tough, I need to find less hilly routes, and some where I won't get mowed down on country lanes) and is it good for a middle aged person's knees, should I be doing weights instead and the heat etc etc. So lots of excuses and negativity still bubbling about.
However, am putting a different spin on it today and wishing I'd bought one as I think it would have actually motivated me and made me feel more like a proper runner. Who knows.
May just have to bite the bullet and pay full price and that's the cost of my negativity and procrastination ๐

Oh can I just chirp in a say donโt forget garmin records elevation as well as distance. I love seeing the elevation of my runs on my stats. Hehe but them I am total stats girl. Black Friday will be coming in a few months if you wanted to get it on a discount, Amazon tend to put a garmin in that.
Thanks. Yes, the elevations around here would be mega! I last ran with Runkeeper last time and that recorded the elevations and they were pretty impressive. I already wear a Fitbit 24/7 and usually run with a Polar and strap as well plus my phone with Runkeeper (bit like a Christmas treee!) so I thought, do I need it, but am thinking that none of those do what I want that well.
Hmmm not sure I can wait till November. Wonder if anyone else does a Garmin sale in the meantime. Off to research!
Me too Designbod. Saw Jays post but haven't had my FB Blaze that long and couldn't justify it. I'd also just come around from anaesthetic so didn't want to make a rash decision. I should've, at least I'd have had an excuse... ๐คฃ
Ooh, hope all is well after your anaesthetic, yes definitely not wise to make impulse purchases when semi conscious!
It's a tricky one when you have a device already. My Fitbit 2 is a good activity tracker but doesn't specifically track running data and has no gps. Is the Blaze more running-specific?
I have the Polar as well so would look like a Xmas tree wearing them all ๐
Lol at the Xmas tree! The Blaze uses phone GPS but I usually toggle that off in favour of Strava. Using both usually causes them both to crash.
It does have an improved exercise tracker from my old Charge 2, but speaking to others I can tell it's still way short of a proper running watch. Fastest pace and built-in GPS.
I'm finding it hard to justify, but am annoyed I upgraded Strava and paid the annual 45 quid which could've give towards the new tracker. Thought the paid version would be better tbh. Still, I'm finding out more each day so maybe not a bad decision after all.
I'll be watching out for a bargain too though so let's each shout to the other of we did anything!? ๐
Think it was by about ยฃ35/40. So pleased to hear you love yours. How do you find the accuracy of the HR would you say? I wear a Fitbit 2 on my wrist 24/7 and I know that's not as accurate as my Polar watch with heart strap (plus I have a very weak pulse so my Fitbit sometimes loses it totally).
I paid about ยฃ120 for mine, much cheaper than from Garmin - as is always the case as far as I can tell. I don't really know about the heart rate monitor, it's consistent at least, I think it's accurate....
Keep your eyes open. You'll see another bargain soon enough. One thing to be aware of is that the wrist HRM function doesn't work properly. The internet is awash with people having issues with getting an accurate Heart Rate count (apparently the device can lock on to your cadence instead). So may be worth doing a bit of homework before shelling out the dough....
I think it was reduced by about ยฃ35/40 I may just suck it up and buy it anyway. Good to know you love yours ๐Presumably you need your smartphone on you still if you want to play music?
Sorry to tell you but this is where I bought mine, priced them beforehand and there was quite a bit of difference in the price. Love mine, only had it a few days but it is very motivating, bite the bullet as you said, youโll find itโs worth it.
I couldnโt stretch to the 235 โน๏ธ. Just had notification that the one I ordered has been delivered. I canโt wait to get home and have a play with it ๐๐. I ran yesterday evening so Iโll have to wait until Saturday to wear it for my first run ๐
Iโm already a stat junkie! I have a spreadsheet that I use to record my runs (probably shouldnโt admit to that?! ๐ฑ). Currently have a Fitbit but that will soon be redundant!! ๐๐
Apparently an issue with the FR 35 is that the HR monitor would sometimes lock on to whatever your running cadence was (how many steps you take in a min).
Having seen my cadence trace (a wriggly worm) and my heart rate trace (a good representation of the Himalayas), safe to say that hasnโt been my experience!
We both have the FR35. Not had any problems with the heart rate monitor. Seems to be accurate enough. I have heart problems and decided to ask about accuracy when I went to the hospital last week. The cardiologist said that short of a hospital grade heart monitor, these are as good as anything. I believe that too many people expect too much from technology.
If I had to recommend the FR35 I would have no hesitation. It does everything a runner wants unless you are going to try a triathlon. The step count is accurate and the Garmin app for the phone gives a wealth of information. Go on, get one. You won't regret it. Buy the toughened glass screen protectors too, very cheap and work well.
