Great post. I would love to know this also.

First tip would be to check with yourself whether you actually need a bottle of water. I carried mine in the first few weeks, essentially as a comfort blanket. It alters your balance and advice is that it probably isn’t needed for our length of runs (especially as you should avoid running in the heat of the day).

Most men’s running gear has pockets. Most women’s doesn’t seem to but it can be found. Lots of ladies swear by a stretchy belt and someone will be along with a link in a moment.

I did wonder if I need the water... but I breathe in thru my mouth and throat gets dry... maybe it is comfort only... Will have see how I go. Thanks for the tip

I breathe the same. Throat does get dry. With the continuous runs just around the corner it’s hard to run and drink. It’s your call but just raising it to think.

Hi Sarah!

Well I usually carry a bumbag and put my keys and phone in there while I run. Except for today, when keys had to be tucked into the top undergarments and run with phone in hand, as I forgot the bumbag! 😊 I drove to my destination, so cancelling the run was not an option! 😂 We survived!

I don't carry water with me on my run, but I drink plenty before I go out and tend to chew gum too. Then I drink again when I get back. That seems to work fine for me.❤️

I'm far from scientific when it comes to this. My keys and my phone are in my pocket. I don't drink for anything less than 15K-ish simply because I hydrate all day long the day before. What you drink before or during the run ends up sloshing in your stomach and not in your system. For my half marathon I had a sip towards the end but only because I followed instincts rather than needs (and the temperature was 9C, which certainly helped).

Then again, if you think you need water - take it! We are all very different.

Hi Sarah, I use a strap round pouch belt bought from a well known on-line store - no advertising here! - good for my phone and keys. Some people use those arm band phone things - don't know where they put their keys 🙃. Whatever you do, have fun and enjoy 😎

I carry my house key in my bra and my phone in an arm strap thing. I use to take water until I read as Jay says that you don’t need it. I was really nervous on my first run without water but completed the run and got home fine without it.

You can also get a flip belt to put your things into.

I have an arm band for my phone and I use Bluetooth headphones - I found the wire annoying. I don’t carry water yet, but I might get one of those carrying water bottles now I’m about to start the longer runs.

As for keys, I clip my single car key (not the bunch) onto my dog lead. She accompanies me, and it doesn’t bother her any more than her name tag.

It’s been trial and error, but this works for me! 😀

Seriously why don't women's clothes have pockets, it's one of my biggest gripes 😡

I use a flipbelt for running, can't tell I'm wearing it.

I did manage to find some leggings with side pockets (on Wish) but they're so far down the leg my headphones won't reach my phone 🙄

Has anyone found any others?

I have some leggings from M&S that had zipped back pocket. Fits in house keys and phone. Use Bluetooth earbuds. I think any belts, straps etc. Would just irritate me.

Will have to visit M&S thanks

I bought a stretchy running belt for my key and phone, couldn't imagine running without it. General advice regarding water is you don't need it on shorter runs and I've been fine even with running on hot days, I always have a glass of water before a run and lots after.

I wear a very light weight bum bag and carry a nifty little bottle with a hole in the middle which I stick in the freezer and use it to cool my sweaty forehead . Very easy to hold and lightweight .

I use what is officially a money belt for my phone and tuck it in to my leggings to stop it wiggling around.

My leggings have a small zip on the back for keys (they’re from Tesco).

I was worried about running without a bottle of water but it’s fine, ran with one once and found it really offputting and my stride all out. I’m running in Sri Lanka this week and am still okay without a water bottle - I just make sure I am hydrated before and afterwards!

I used a hair band and attached my car key to it and put it on my wrist I usually always have one there anyway and arm thingy but wasn't comfy so I was wearing a waterproof coat that has zipped pockets and tied it round my waist when got too hot. I've just bought 2 bum bags one for phone one for charger from decathlon in their sale was 9.99 including delivery for both.

Freetoo belt.. Amazon UK :) For water bottles.. Zikee belt... But very well done..

Normally we would perhaps not carry water for anything up to 5K..but the extreme humidity and unaccustomed heat may make it necessary... don't be caught out.. just take a small amount, and make sure you hydrate every single day.. run day hydration is not enough.

Some of the most experienced runners have been caught out even on a short run..

Check this out too...

Using it to pour over your wrists or the back of the neck can be all you need.. :)

When I started C25k I just used to shove my key in the hole in the side of sports bra ( where the stupid useless padded bits always fall out of ). And I ran with a bit of paper telling me walk for 5 mins, run for 1 min, walk for 90 secs etc.

Then when it got a bit colder I had a little thin running jacket and put phone in one pocket and key in the other

Then it warmed up a bit and I cdnt wear the jacket so I bought a flip belt and my phone goes in the front, key and tissues in the side and you CAN buy a slim bottle which fits along the back in one of the other openings but I don’t carry water with me. I hydrate well the day before and have a electrolyte tablet and water when I get home.

But I also get dry mouth and chew gum, which I usually tuck up the side of my top row of teeth in case I choke ... ever the optimist me.

I don't take water with me, I have a drink when I get home.

For my Saturday runs around the country park, I leave a bottle of water in the car. I don't trust the pockets in my shorts so I tie my car key to the drawstring inside the waistband.

I carry my phone in my hand, don't get on with the arm strap thing. Once I graduate I'm going to treat myself to a nice watch, then I'll be leaving my phone behind too 😊

I use the FlipBelt. I have an iPhone 8+ and it fits fine. Also has a key clip and room for a small water bottle. I only carry water on longer runs because it’s so hot ( I pour it down my neck and over my baseball cap 🧢) x

Another recommendation for a flipbelt, freetoo blet or simply a generic 'bum-bag'. You want something slightly stretchy so that it fits snugly and your phone and key don't bounce around. Just be careful that the phone actually fits into the pocket of the belt as phones have got quite large these days.

I use MPOW magneto bluetooth headphones (£15 from Amazon) and they've been absolutely amazingly brilliant. Never fall out of my ears, great battery life and no cable running to my phone.

I try and limit the keys that I carry to just the minimum... the fob of my car or just my front-door key so that it all fits into the bum-bag.

I know what you mean about wetting your mouth/throat when running, but I tried carrying one of those oval water bottles with the hole in the middle and it just annoyed me. Now I hydrate as best I can all the time. "The water that your tissues need for running was drunk yesterday". However we are all different, and it has been exceptionally hot over the last month. But I've not taken any water with me on a run 5km...18km since graduating. Quick slurp from a cup on a 10km race, but never when I'm training.

I have a really comfy stretchy running belt which I love. I don't bother with water, just fill up before and after.

I run in old shorts with pockets- had to tuck phone in waistband and key in bra otherwise!

I use a small bum bag which I bought from a sports shop (£5.99). Its just big enough to put my phone (without its case) and a set of keys. Works well for me! 😀

Amazon have a huge selection, mine was only £4.99 and its great. Mine has a pouch and a strap with a clip. It sits nice and still, no jiggling about. Would love one of the ones which are a solid band but as im trying to loose weight too I needed on which adjusts....hopefully.
