Unfortunate end to the first week.

Started week one earlier in the week. First two outings went okay. Did the third one tonight but half way pulled muscles in my calves on both legs. I completed the run very slowly as I didn’t want to give up. My right leg is quite painful now so I think I will have to give it time to heal.

I’ve no intention of giving up so when I’m recovered should I start week 1 again?

Ouch. How fast were you running? This is meant to be done at a gentle jog speed, not sprints.

Definitely rest up until you have no pain, consider seeing a sports physio if the pain is bad as you may need proper help with it. Some GPs will refer you to a physio.

Good luck recovering. Running isn’t going to go anywhere whilst you are forced onto the Injury Couch.

Yes I was doing a gentle jog, in fact I purposely jogged a bit slower than the other nights. Thanks for the advice.

Sorry to hear that Tony. I hope you’ll be able to get back out soon!! I’m not sure about the repeats, but remember it’s a change for better health and fitness, so you might just want to try to go very very slowly from where you left off and adjust, if needed. I see runners zooming past me all the time, but I’m slow as hell. I’m running at my own very very slow pace, but I’m running. There’s an achievement and a celebration every single time I get out there. I genuinely just have fun! Good luck! ❤️

Thanks. Yes I will go even slower when I get back out.

I echo Jay with going slower and also add stretching after each run and ensure you have a rest day in between in each run. As for repeating - I’d say maybe just do your run 3 again as you struggled with that. Good luck. 😊

Yes I may have to do some gentle stretching before I run next time. Thanks.

I'm wondering if covering your calves (knee length running socks or full length bottoms) might be a good idea for you.

When you are ready to get out there, just pick up where you left off. This might mean the Week 2 session if you didn't actually stop during W1 R3 and continued walking in walk sections and a running motion (however slow) in the run sections. Perhaps less temptation to sprint...

Yes maybe I was a bit colder to start off with which may have had some effect. I think I will try to take it much slower next time. Not sure about covering my legs though, I was trying to get some sun on them ;-). Thanks.
