Calf and Shin pain

Hi, I am on W2 of C25K and I have a stupid question. I noticed while running that for 30 seconds my legs are OK then I get sore calf's and shins for the next 60 seconds. I then walk and my legs ease up then I start running again after the 2 minute walk. What I noticed was that my legs were the same level of 'sore' from 30-90 seconds. Does this pain ease up as I work through the 9 week program?

Any advice or words of wisdom would be appreciated.

Thanks

Gavin

Yeah I'm sure it's just your body complaining about running ha! But yes should definitely ease as you go through the programme.

Just make sure you do your warm up and warm down walks and stretch before and after the sessions, targeting areas that get sore whilst running.

Hope this helps!

what shoes are you using? they may not be giving you enough cushioning or support when you run.

Hi. I was having pain in my left calf in the first 2 weeks. I found stretching exercises really helped, especially the one where you stand in a stair and your heels are lower than your toes. Search for calf stretches for runners. It really helped me.

Iv had burning when I run too, until I found out that I wasn’t stretching properly before hand...... if it’s the outside of your shins like mine then sit on your knees with your feet pointing backwards. (Basically just get on your knees and sit back on them) this really helped me but it could be something else like shoes, form....ect good look hope it helps 👍

The guide to the plan explains the basics healthunlocked.com/couchto5... and you are bound to get some aches and pains and they will probably reduce in time.

To minimise the impact, slow down, avoid heelstriking, keep footfall under the body not out in front, run on grass and wear proper running shoes fitted after a gait analysis done at a specialist running shop.

Not what you're looking for?
