I haven't ran since leaving school I'm 45 now just completed w3r3. Just looked at w4r1 5 minutes of jogging. I'm finding it hard with the 3 minutes jog. I'll give it a go and see if I can do it. Gotta stay positive and give it a Shot. Any info on staying focus on the jogs and breathing techniques?

Breathing? Don't worry about it. Just breathe in and out like you normally do. If you can hear your breathing you probably need to slow down even more. Keeping yourself going through that interminable 5 minutes? Pick some a couple of hundred yards in front of you and get to that. Then pick another. Set yourself little intermediate goals. Seems to work for me so far....

If you haven’t ran for that long your already doing amazing, slow down and if your struggling slow down even more! good luck xxx

Breathe normally. If you run slow enough your breathing should be ok. Slow is goooood. 👍🏃‍♀️🙂

Hi Suzi, I'm same as you, ready to do W4R1 tonight and the thought of 5 minutes does seem quite daunting. Saying that, I was also daunted by the thought of jumping from 90 secs to 3 mins, but somehow managed it. Personally for me, I got a good tip off of this site, and what I do is listen to podcasts when I'm running instead of music. I was finding that with the music I always ended up trying to get my steps and breathing in time with the music which worked well for one song, but then the next song would be a slightly different rhythm and I found it quite off-putting. So now, I try and pick some random funny podcasts. Listening to these as I run makes me forget about speed/pace/breathing because I think I'm listening and laughing at whatever this weeks chosen topic is and I feel more relaxed and then the breathing and the steps all kind of take care of themselves. I know we are all different but this technique has been ideal for me.

Good luck with your next run though, it's always nice to know there are others out there with the same concerns as yourself :)

I’m on week 4/2 and was worried about running for 5 minutes after completing wk 3. But I managed it and am really chuffed with myself. You’ll do it I’m sure. I’m 58 and didn’t even run at school!

Hi Suzi73 first time I have run since school too and I’m 53yrs & 3 stone overweight. Just completed W4r1 and surprised how comfortable it felt. Take it nice and slow and don’t let your fears stop you

On my w4r2 tomorrow I did take advice from the mentor. Concertrated on my breathing and slowed up my pace. I was over the moon when the app said you have ran for 16 minutes in total. I did a dance so yes did it. Thank you for asking. How are you doing?

Well done. I find the breathing difficult too but I’m sure it will come. Just finished wk5/1 which was ok. But apprehensive about run 2. Will let you know how it went When us your next run?

My friend at work is on the same as you. I've inspired a few work colleagues at the moment. I hope I'm OK when I move on. Concertrate on breathing and pace I find. Listen to your body x
