I'm just about to start week 7, so now it's long runs only. So far I've been downloading music and have submerged myself in this. I've also listened to Radio 2 confessions podcast. So I'm interested in how you all divert your thoughts away from the run?

juggling, a bit of crochet, reciting the Kalevala.
You could also try focusing your thoughts on the run. There are 2 schools of thought on this. I always used to be 'diversion at all costs' to take my mind off how long was left, but have since found that being present in the moment and just concentrating on the run itself actually makes it much more enjoyable.
Iβm just finishing w7 today and I stick to the same 1 1/2 hours of music having tried a podcast but being frustrated by missing bits when Jo Whiley interrupted!
Does anyone else find it increasingly annoying to be βin th zoneβ and brought back to earth with a bump by being told theyβre only halfway through?!
Thanks Becca! I have a fitness tracker on and keep a very close eye on the time because the app has crashed a few times on me so there's very rarely a suprise at how long I've got π. I also have a control on my headphone cord to quickly pause what I'm listening to. Well done to you finishing week 7!
You just relax into the runs and take in every single thing around you... Sometimes, the runs are not long enough !
In some runs though, it is a great idea to focus on aspects of your run as Rignold says... I still do have times, ( when my thoughts are not running away with me) , when I concentrate on the way my feet move and the whole style of my runs
Oldfloss you make the run sound so romantic. Scenery is nowhere near as nice here but it's nice to look at houses. I just worry that if I have nothing going into my ears I'll be complaining to myself about how hard the run is - it was hard in the heat tonight. π₯
Town or country .. so much to see.. I use all the runs.. to imagine and wonder about... It is hard though...and breathing clear fresh air makes it special I am lucky xx
I was about to give the Radio 2 Confessions podcasts a go, but realised Jo Whiley has joined Simon from this week. As Jo is my trainer I think thatβll lead to some confusion! Think Iβll stick to earlier episodes π
I fit between Oldfloss and Rignold .............fifty percent of the time I run "naked" and just take in my surroundings and let my thoughts flow.....this can be very productive and creative time........then the rest of the time I just have my entire music collection on my phone, set to shuffle.......this has created some wonderful new associations between runs and music.
I sometimes listen to music but last time I pressed shuffle I ended up listening to Christmas tunes half way through the run and couldnβt managed to run and fumble in my waist band so just had to put up with Christmas tunes in May ππ
Mostly just enjoy concentrating on the run with no music π
Oh gosh that would drive me mad listening to Christmas music although I think Bruce Springsteen's version of Santa Claus Is Coming To Town would have a good rhythm to run to! π πββοΈ
