Achy Legs 😩

Hi. Today I’ve completed W6 R2 which I quite enjoyed. However, since completing it, my calves and shins have been aching...something that I hadn’t experienced until now. Is this normal?

First of all! Well done. I wonder if it’s because you’re working harder as you’re able to do more? Keep going 😊

Thank you! It’s possible I suppose but today’s run wasn’t too different to the previous and I didn’t suffer after that one. I’m just worried because I have had shin splints in the past and they’re a killler....I don’t want to agrivate them and then not be able to do the next run as scheduled. Hopefully, a nights rest will do the trick and together with a rest day tomorrow, I’ll be ok by Tuesday.

If you haven't experienced this before now, I would ask you whether you are properly shod. If your shoes are not proper running shoes, fitted after a gait analysis done at a specialist running shop, then they may well be contributing to the problem.

Most running aches are directly attributable to impact stresses, so do all you can to reduce these. Slow down, avoid heelstrike, keep footfall under body, not in front, run on grass or treadmill, wear good shoes and stretch after every run.

Thank you for the advice. My shoes were purchased after a gait analysis so I would hope it’s not that. I’m wondering whether to get some shin supports. I was suffering a little with my knees but since using patella straps, it’s really helped. I’m really hoping this isn’t anything too serious and rather just aches after longer runs. I guess only time will tell 😉

Ibuprofen 👍🏽

It might be a one off. Just achey legs. If it recurs then worry more but I bet it’s just achey legs.
