Hi everyone, I’ve been on the IC for 2 weeks although I did a tentative week1 run 4 days ago and decided not to do another. I just need a bit of a pep talk! I see all my running friends improving and going beyond 5k since graduation, but for me it’s been nothing but bad luck and I can’t believe I’ve got to go back to week 1 again for the third time! I got to week 4 2 weeks ago. Any advice on where to start in a few days/ when my calf is healed? Thanks. On a more positive note I can walk and this morning I went out with my run playlist on and had a lovely time 😊
IC woes.: Hi everyone, I’ve been on the IC for... - Couch to 5K
IC woes.
Oh dear CatMo, you have had your share of setbacks and lost some confidence in your ability...😯
If you got to Week 4 again two weeks ago, do you feel you could try one of those once given the all clear? If not then drop back to Week 3 and do that.
I looked back at a couple of your recent posts and it feels as if you have had to push yourself too much, running with others, or feeling like you need to achieve.
Take your running time as You time, for yourself, and just ease into gentle slow running. Forget about pace and distance, just complete the time session. You know you can get back up to 30 mins of running, as you have done it before. There needs to be no pressure or pushing though.
You really don't want another injury, so keep up the yoga and always do the stretches after your run. Before your run do a good long warm up walk and ease gently into the first run interval.
Have you been given heel drops and toe lifts to do as part as your after run stretching. I find these really good.
Stand on the bottom stair facing up with your feet half on half off. Hold onto the bannister or wall. Go up onto your toes, hold for a few seconds, then back to level. Then gently drop your heels just enough to feel the stretch, hold for a few seconds then back to level. Repeat a few times.
Once you get back on the program, taking it one run at a time and listening to your body, your confidence will return and so will the enjoyment factor. You are competing with no-one else.
I do hope you can start back soon. Good luck.😊xx
Thanks so much Bluebird, it is very kind of you to check out my posts and find out my story. You've given me a boost and some really good advice too. I would like to start at week 3, it would make me feel better. Yes I do the stair lifts and I do always warm up etc.. but as you say and I know it too, I was in too much of a rush to get back to where I was before my op. I will hopefully start back very soon! xx
Hi CatMo13, I am so sorry you have had to return to the injury couch. Seeing as your last post was 10 days ago, I wonder if you have been able to take up some running again. If not, I hope that it is soon. One of the folk who is on the same run as me is on her 4th attempt to make it to the podium. What perseverance! This forum, which I am still learning to become familiar (that's why I just found you!) certainly reminds me frequently that it is very much a personal journey. Slow and steady. I do hope to hear that you have left the ic soon.
Ah that's such a shame & so frustrating. Don't run on it until it is better though. I've had calf problems in the past & had to stop running for a while. You can do other things though - like walking - which you did. Swimming is meant to be really good for injury i think - but I'm def no expert! I did the static bike in the gym as well when mine was injured. Good luck. Keep us posted
Thanks Welsh witch. It’s nice to get some extra concern since I’ve not been on the forum for a while as I was finding it quite hard to see everyone else posting about brilliant runs and there’s me just with nothing to report ! I’ll still check back in and one day may be able to run again. This is a brilliant forum for support and helping each other and I really appreciate your replies 😊
