Tried the last run of my 1st week outside today instead of on the treadmill at the gym and oh my it was so much better! It was at the beach on such a beautiful day maybe that was why? Anyway so glad I went and completed my 1st week slow progress but still progress! Let’s see how I get on next run 🙏

Well done for completing week 1. I love running outside and can hardly believe I ever thought running in the gym was preferable to running outside. I guess it’s “horses for courses” though as some people prefer the treadmill.
Good on you! I completed w1r3 yesterday too. Outdoors for me too! I am apprehensive when l look at the content of the weeks to come, but even if l only manage to run for a minute at a time, that's still progress, right!?
Don’t look too far ahead. The beauty of this programme is that it really works. Each run is preparing you for the next. So when you get to those later runs, if you’ve done the runs and rest days leading up to them you will be ready, willing and able.
I was the same and I have just completed Week7 run2 with my daughter ( and it was warm running along by the river). I had a niggly thigh and ankle and said to her “ I don’t know how I’ll be this morning. If my leg gives out , you carry on and finish your run and I’ll walk back to the car.”
Well off we went and as I started to run after the warmup walk, my thigh was grumbling a bit and I thought this is going to be a disaster. We ran along and it was a beautiful day, lots of other runners and a couple of cyclists. Everyone very cheery, lots of “good mornings” and 👋
I moaned and grumbled my way along thinking about the first 10 mins being the worst and it will get better in a minute. And it didn’t. And then after all the words of encouragement from my daughter she finally said to me “ we ARE going quite fast for you Mum - I didn’t tell you before as I thought you’d just slow down”.
We turned round at halfway through and started back with the wind behind this time ( it didn’t feel any better ) and by this time I was running with my left leg and dragging the right and punctuating this with moaning “ I’m dying” and “ I can’t go on” etc.
She is so encouraging skipping along with “you’re doing great Mum” and “ you’ve already run for this long” and lots of other chirpy phrases ( that I could have cheerfully killed her for).
Then we had done it and we were walking for 5 brisk minutes and I realised we had already gone further than before so I sort of got a second wind, walked faster to the end and I ended up with a new PB!!!
And to think I nearly didn’t go out at all.
When I first started I moaned and grumbled though the 60 second runs , and could barely breathe. And the same the next week and I kept thinking I’d never get any better and here I am on week 7 and I’m running continuously for 25 minutes. You will too. This programme works - I am nearly 65 and haven’t run for 25 years and my daughter is 31 and we run together so anyone can do this.
And the icing on the cake ? My daughter told her dad , my ex and even he said “wow!! Tell her well done!!”. 😁😁
