Starting out

I've just been finally given a clean bill of health to start running. I went on my first run this morning and was surprised how I didn't die.

I'm massively overweight for my height but the thing that bothers me most is how out of breath I get going up stairs!

I've lost 3.5kg in the last three weeks by calorie control but I want to get fit too!

The next week seems daunting though. Is it a manageable step up?

Well yes of course. This is not just any running programme 😃

It’s progressive so if you Run one run you can do the next etc etc

I started to learn to run using this programme for health and weight reasons, and to keep up with my borrowed fitness buddy. I have never looked back from that day to this and have transformed myself fitness and health wise

So can you! Take it SLOW. Slow is the way to get through it 💪👍

Well done.

Your post made me smile as "I was surprised how I didn't die" sums up my thoughts on the first run of every week of the whole plan. Each time there was a new week and a new step up I doubted that I would be able to do it. But I didn't die either and my advice is to trust the plan. It's a good one. :)

Yes it's manageable. Not easy but manageable. Take it slowly. A slow jog is absolutely fine! Wave to the snails as they overtake you 🤣. It's not a race, it's stamina building and by week 3 (where I am now) you will look back and think the week 2 runs were a doddle! Good luck with the running and weight loss... You can do this 😃

Yes I remember my first few runs and thinking that I’ll never be able to do more than 60 seconds at a time, but the programme is excellent at increasing the stamina and improving the breathing. I’m now on W8 and am totally amazed. But work it to your own ability and don’t worry about repeating sessions if you don’t feel ready to move on.

Good luck with your next runs. I won’t say enjoy it, because that comes later, but enjoy the feeling when you’ve completed each session.
