Well I completed week5 run 1 with my daughter on Sunday morning and thought I was going to die. We went earlyish 8.45,thinking it would be cooler. It was for about 2 mins.
I did all my prep ( I thought)... stretches beforehand, plenty of water on Saturday, and a glassful when I first got up plus a banana, my new decent shoes, sports bra, knee supports, inhaler ( since January’s flu bug), lip balm on, tissue with me and off we went.
I don’t know why but I set off a bit quick when I started the first 5 min run ... I was with my daughter who just kept pace with me..and after about 2 mins I could not breathe properly..thought I was going to have to stop before I passed out!!! She said well slow down Mum, you’re a bit fast for you, so I did, but the rest of the run just seemed to go on and on and on!!!
At one point I was nearly crying.
The recovery walk vanished before I’d caught my breath properly, and the second 5 mins was agony. I even had trouble passing a woman with a dog, and she was stood still!!! I was back to the shuffle run, barely lifting my feet.
I felt so deflated as I’ve been beginning to enjoy my running again up to now. As we walked back to her flat we discussed the run. I said I couldn’t understand it I just couldn’t seem to breathe in, not through my nose and not even mouth breathing - I could breathe OUT for count of 4 but cd barely drag one breath in. AND I’d used my inhaler before we left. Really gasping. Then she said well it is very polleney this morning and we both looked at each other and said “ Nose Spray!!”.
For years I’ve suffered badly with Hay Fever and allergies, usually use a nose spray from dr every morning in pollen season, but being at someone else’s house and things being in different places I’d forgotten it.
Im hoping that was my problem so tomorrow I’ll be off out there again, this time on my own ( back home again) and try for week5 run2. And I’ll be starting much slower. I’m like a walking Chemist advert when I go out. Let’s hope they don’t drug test the Park Runs when I finally start them. ☹️🤣🤣
