Buy the best you can afford, bearing in mind that even expensive running shoes are cheaper than a physio.

Just to say don't go anywhere near the £300 - law of diminishing returns (unless you were joking obvs) - less than half that will get really good shoes and sales/old styles will save you even more. Most I've paid is £125 as a gift to me and I wouldnt wear them during the bad weather for fear of ruining them! 😂

I got some new trainers this weekend after having gait analysis done and the cost me just over £100, I needed ones with more support. As everyone else has said get what you can afford and also think of it as an investment in your future health.
