I’m so jealous of you others posting about having completed runs in weeks 5 etc, well of anyone further ahead than me! I’ve managed to complete week one, but worried about week two - the one minute runs have been hard for me, I worry I won’t be able to do any longer...
Oh and I got heckled twice today, I have to run by a road and feel fat and self conscious; having drivers take the time to honk at me or shout out the window makes me want to give up. I won’t, of course, because of some idiots, but I wonder if they’d do it if they knew how rubbish it makes me feel.
Moan over! Anyone got some words of wisdom, encouragement, or been in similar situations? It’s so nice to hear back from other people when I post!

Well done completing week 1. Every new week is a bit daunting but it will be manageable for you. Just slow down and take your time. Try to ignore the heckling - you’re out there doing it! Rest up and look forward to next week. 🏃♀️
Just keep giving yourself a lot of pats on the back and tell yourself how well you are doing, because after all it’s you that you are doing it for. Every week is a new challenge, embrace it. Oh and you might see on my other posts, I do like a fist pump at the end of every run 😂😂
Idiots! they think they're being funny and clever, but they're just nasty a*** holes, and no, unfortunately I don't think they realise how crappy they make others feel. I don't suppose they would like it if someone treated their daughters like that.
But on the other hand, they are just idiots and as long as you are safe to run where you are running, don't let the buggers win, the problem is theirs and their tiny minds, you're getting out there making a difference to yourself and your well being, please don't them put you off, they don't deserve a second thought .... stuff 'em.
Don’t be jealous although I know what you mean! I remember being in week 1 or 2 and thinking ‘wow look at those people who are in week 8 and 9’ and thinking it was so far away, yet now that’s you looking at me. I’m telling you it works, and it doesn’t take long!
Last night these teens said ‘run faster’ to me. I said ‘I’m going f’in faster than you’. Then a guy ran passed me and I thought I bet they don’t shout anything to him. Typical. Pick on a woman. So annoying. Don’t let them get you down.
You will also get to W5 and beyond Lilipolpo! Turn your backing track up and zone out from the moronic heckles. They know not what they do!! You are just as capable as any of us! We are all just like you, self-conscious, well out of our comfort zone, and many very new to any form of exercise. I think the reason so many of us are posting is that we just cannot believe that we have achieved what we have achieved, be it W1R3 or W9R3!! Good luck - you are doing amazingly! Don’t let anyone put you off your stride! Xx
You’re dead right, I’d never normally post online but with this process sharing achievements, whatever magnitude, and sharing concerns is really motivating!
Well done for keeping going. I started by doing circuits of a local park, and a group of boys were sniggering... so I waved at them!! Soon stopped them 😊
Congratulations on completing week 1, your time will come to be running weeks 4,7 & 9. Trust the program and believe in yourself!!!
I still feel conscious when running and I graduated 4 weeks ago and have also completed a 5K parkrun.
I believe that is the reason I prefer early morning runs because less people can see me?
I was doing a 12hr night shift when I chose to do my graduation run. Got my kit on and during my break I chose to run through the student area of Nottingham, at 3am on a Saturday morning!!!
I received more drunken hecklers than you could probably imagine and at one point looked round to find a small group of drunks running behind me 😂 mimicking me!
I hope you manage to run the rest of the program heckle free, but if not try and channel it into a driving force pushing you on graduation week!!
Don’t let them put you off. And remember it’s not what people do, it’s how you let them make you feel that matters. You are doing something great for yourself.
Keep going and, as others say, turn up the music and ignore the idiots.
Well done on completing W1, I've got R3 to complete tomorrow to join you. I have felt very self conscious this week too - but as others have suggested I turned the music up, smiled to myself and pushed on, albeit pretty slowly!
I’m about to start week 5 and I am as suprised as I was during week 1 that I can do this. I’m even more suprised that I love it. I’m running around with extra weight but I’m trying to sort that with a combination of this and diet. As for the hecklers I had some hurtful comments from my own friends but it has made me even more determined. Now in week 5 they are starting to ask how it’s going. Keep going and enjoying it because you want to not because of anyone or anybody else
Odd people have sniggered when I’ve told them I’m doing C25K to which I reply “at least I’m doing it”. I do feel that it’s due to them feeling inadequate (as I used to do myself). However, I feel I’ve now joined this great group of people and can now say “I’m off for a run”. I’ve never ran, used to walk the 400m at school. Btw I’m on W3R1 today, so not much further along than you, keep with it, in no time you’ll be further along.... you go girl! 🏃♀️ 🏃♀️👍🏻
Lovely to read so many postitive and inspiring replies.
I'm sorry to hear that you had a heckler but you're doing fantastically and are now armed with a couple of good responses should it happen again. You're making such a positive change in your life so try not to let the pillocks get to you.
I'm at the same stage as you, having completed W1R3 this morning and, although I'm managing at the moment, I'm fully prepared to repeat runs or weeks if I start to really struggle at any point. I'm going to give it my all of course, but 'slow and steady' seems to be the key phrase around here and one that I will adhere to!
Let me know how W2R1 goes, best of luck to us! Yeah I might repeat runs if I don’t do them properly, not just to be a perfectionist but to know I can do that number of minutes running before going up to the next stage.
You’ve done great to complete week 1. I definitely felt the same at the end of week 1. I posted that I didn’t think I could even run another 30 seconds let alone add more minutes but you’ll be surprised how much you can do. I’m on week 9 now and never thought I could get here, running for 30 mins. If I can do it, then anyone can give it a good go. Good luck !
