Hi all, I completed my first run of week run yesterday. I stretched afterwards but I really ache today! My usual exercise is walking briskly most days, so wasn't expecting this. Not looking forward to tomorrow's run at the moment, but hey, who said it would be easy...

Hi and welcome. I am a relative newbie as well. Only on week 2. The beauty is it does get easier or at least less uncomfortable. Let us know how you are getting on 😀

I ache and feel shattered some times but just keep going, I guess it’s normal ?

Aches and pains are really par for the course at this stage... your body wonders what is happening to it:)

Well done, do make sure you are drinking plenty of liquids, (not alcohol😉) on your rest day as well as after your run. Your muscles need this to help them recover...

Onwards and upwards 😊x

I found that I tried too hard in the beginning by going a little too fast and also I held my whole body tense. I am only on week 3 but I do stretching exercises before and after. My pace is extremely slow and I mean I have really deliberately slowed the pace and the aching has got less

Welcome and well done on starting.mIm sure you won't regret it. Running uses different muscles to walking - strange but true - it's a different action as during the stride both feet are off the ground at the same time which is probably why you are unexpectedly aching. If it is bad tomorrow just wait another day. Also make sure you are going slowly, as you walk briskly it is quite feasible to run slower were than your brisk walk.

Check this out; great advice out together by one one the team:)

Take it slow and take it steady... that is all you need to do...just follow the plan and relax into it...it may not be easy, but..you get stronger with each and every run and it will be worth it:)

I really ached after my first few runs too!

Decided to do some simple stretches like lunges and heel lifts both before and after the run this morning, and my legs are feeling pretty good now! 🙂

Aching is quite normal, it’s pain that is the worry. If it is really stiff and sore maybe take an extra day’s rest before you tackle the next one. But this should lessen as your bod gets used to the challenges.

Follow the guidance FAQS, stretch and take it nice and slow and steady and you will be fine.

Well done on getting out and getting your first run done - that’s always the hardest part of this plan

I found after my run 2 wk 1 the pains went, run through it 😊

I'm new to this too! Just completed W1R2 & ache still from Sunday! I used to go to the gym regularly & run on the treadmill but had to give up abt 10 months ago due to medical reasons- I'm just back now & surprised about how much I ache - as the others have said - hopefully it will improve! Good luck.

It will get easier. Keep looking after your body well with good nutrients, hydration and stretches and it will keep rewarding you with completed runs 👍😁
