Is my pace slow?

Ive completed the C25K once before (a while ago though) and i'm currently doing it all again from scratch. I'm at W6 Run 2. I feel i'm doing okay BUT I cant seem to up my pace. On average my pace is around 12.50 min/mi and I'm aware this isn't particularly fast. Why do you think I cant go faster and is there anything I can do to help?

Hi jellybean87 , well done for going at it again, and for getting to W6R2!

Seriously, don't worry at all about your speed. 12'50" per mile is 7.8 minutes per km, that's absoutely fine, and shows that you're not going too fast. I'm convinced that pace improves naturally as your fitness level improves, so please don't worry about it. Complete C25K again, and I know you will, but don't worry about getting to 5k. I certainly didn't, I was only at about 4k when I completed it. The important thing is you will be running for 30 minutes, with all the associated physical and mental health benefits that brings.

My thoughts would be if you want to go faster, then maybe wait until you complete Week 9, do a bit of consolidating (getting used to regular running for 30 minutes reliably) and maybe consider something like this:

Have fun!!

Previously when I did this I was doing 12 min for every mile but now I am back and am going much much slower so you're fast compared to me! Don't worry it's fine! :)

C25K is about building stamina and endurance......... speed will follow as you get stronger. If you try to push now you are more likely to get injured. Better to wait until you graduate before you try to speed up.

I think you're doing fine. It's far more about the time, the fancy stuff can come later. Good luck.

slow running is cool running, the speed will come in time honestly. You’re still rebuilding your running legs, once your stamina has improved you’ll start to go faster.

I think it was Irishprincess who said that it takes a year to get your running legs in, so it’s till early days yet.

Well done on coming back and getting so far in.

Run at conversation pace for as long as possible to get fit. Slow is very good and healthy. Speed comes with time. Sometimes at parkrun will only beat those who never came but that's still okay. 😊
