W5R3 - Done and dusted!

Never in my life, not even as a child in school was I ever able to run for any sort of distance or time without feeling like I was dying, in fact I used to have childhood delusions and make excuses for myself thinking I had asthma or some sort of heart condition! Well now i'm older and wiser I know that's not the case

After just 18 runs (sounds less than almost 6 weeks of running) I've run 20 minutes and covered 3.2km without collapsing on the ground after, or really PROPERLY struggling like I was when the PE teacher made me do laps of the pitch at school. I see what people mean about getting into your stride, the exertion from 10 minutes to 20 minutes only increased a tiny ammount, I wasn't huffing and puffing much more, felt I could have done 25 as my willpower is there but there's no point pushing myself when the program has been on the money all this time.

Ran with earphones for the first time in my C25k journey, listening to a ricky gervais podcast. They kept falling out but it did keep me occupied and smiling.

From 8 minutes of running to 20 minutes running. Well chuffed with myself, to echo what everyone else says it's a mental barrier! if you can do Run 2 of this week you can do Run 3 if your head is in it! don't give up think about how far you've came and how nice it will be to tell people you're running for 20 minutes - Telling people you ran a few minutes then walked for 5 minutes never seems to garner much praise as it's breaking for a walk, but once you're running non stop it sounds a lot better!

I'm going to try giving up drinking in the house every weekend, it was a tradition I followed on from my dad and I'm just thinking of how much I could shape up and how much money I saved if I gave it up. I don't think it should be much of a problem because i've got the willpower

Thanks folks

I know exactly what you mean about being 'made run' in childhood. Because of undiagnosed asthma and undiagnosed foot bone deformities I too always suffered the tortures of hell when trying to run - with the result I never did until nearly two years ago now and this programme :)

Wishing you many happy miles in your future :)

(like - I quit booze altogether 25 years ago, cigarettes four or five....like running it took me a while to grow up a bit and take responsibility for my health LOL. Glad you are getting an earlier start in life :) )

Well done👏👍 it's a fantastic feeling 😁

I rarely drink these days, the feel good benefits of not having alcohol soon become greater than any feel good factor it brings 👍
