Blame me…

I just bought gorgeous new shorts from Under Armour (other brands are available but my god these ones are a great fit) and short-sleeve tees, and snow is due in London (of all places dear god!) tomorrow. I couldn't run this morning due to a very early start at work, so was planning tomorrow morning – snowy and real feel -5, Sigh. Back to long leggings and fleecy hoody again. Double sigh.

*looks longingly at new shorts* WHEN IS SUMMER COMING?????!!!! Aaaaaaaaaagh.

Yours disappointedly,

I think we're all feeling the same Sadie. However, I'm not letting it get the better of me, shorts and long sleeved tee for me on the Parkrun tomorrow :)

Have a good run tomorrow :)x

Hmmm. Maybe I should give it a go! Enjoy your park run. 😀😘

run in shorts in snow. It will be good for circulation and stuff.

I hate people who say they 'love winter'. They start rhapsodising about how nice it is to 'come in from the cold to a nice big roaring fire and snuggle down into a sheepskin rug in front of it blah blah blah.."

Sounds to me they like to be WARM- right?

LOL :)

TedG profile image

Hi John, I’ll find out this summer whether I prefer the warmer weather for running. As it is, I really overheat even if there’s a chill in the air, we’ll have to wait and see 😊

Irish-John profile image
Irish-JohnGraduate in reply toTedG

It's definitely a bit more 'gaspy' - I started the programme in the the middle of summer when temps averaged 115 and 90% humidity. Theoretically I should have been able to run ten percent faster in cold weather.

Unfortunately that is all it was - theory LOL :)

😂😂😂 Good point, John!

Guilty! Guilty! I love winter. But coming from Ireland John, we didn't really have a choice did we? 😏

...as long as I shall live I will never forget those freezing cold wet mornings...miserable memories of no heat in the house or hot water on tap.

Only problem I have there Sadie, is I don’t do early mornings....unless of course you’re talking about around 8am 🤪

Sadie-runs profile image
Sadie-runsGraduate in reply toTedG

6am is early for me! In summer, it is a very pretty time of day, and there is still a freshness in the air. Do you want to hear something odd? Since I started running last August, not once have I run later than 8:30am! Not once. I wonder if I could even run in the afternoon / evening! 🤔

TedG profile image
TedGGraduate in reply toSadie-runs

Is that because you work during the day?

Sadie-runs profile image
Sadie-runsGraduate in reply toTedG

In part. But also because I have always been a lark. My eyes ping open at 5:30am without fail. Even on the flipping weekend! 😱

I am sticking with my shorts. Just wear a warm top, its good for the circulation. They sound lovely :)

Sadie-runs profile image

Aha, so I keep hearing! I will give it a go (desperate to try out shorts - have NEVER run in shorts before!) 😀

I am in denial for this cold and snow thing. My brain says spring!

Sadie-runs profile image

Me too! It’s glorious in London today, sunny and warm. I cannot quite believe the reports for snow and minus degree temps again for tomorrow!

Irishprincess profile image

Ooh you are ready for the warmer weather Sadie! Pity you couldn't run today as it was quite hot out but yes back to thermal tomorrow it seems ❄️

Enjoy the shorts when they eventually get an outing 🙂

Sadie-runs profile image
Sadie-runsGraduate in reply toIrishprincess

Yes, I am still seething about the fact I couldn’t go this morning, and then spent whole day trapped in the office gazing out at the blue sky. 🙁 But still, I don’t mind running in the cold as I get super hot anyway! I just love a blue sky. Hope all is well with you IP! x

This weather is nuts. I wore a light top today on a run and it was far too hot. Now I have to prepare for frost. I bought a lovely magnolia tree yesterday (it's very small currently) but I'm going to have to either cover it tonight or bring it into a shed because otherwise the frost will brown the unfurling buds ☹️

Still, it can't last forever and it'll be shorts time before we know it x

"and snow is due in London (of all places dear god!) tomorrow" << I love the way you phrased this. :D

Yeah, basically we decided in Scotland to mix it up this year and send you some late winter. We had some spare. So um, yeah, sorry about that. :P [shuffles feet sheepish] Any chance you could return the favour with some spare blistering, unbearable heat in Summer? ;) We promise to resemble lobsters and seriously consider taking "running in the buff" quite literally, out of heat shock...

Sadie-runs profile image
Sadie-runsGraduate in reply tonotoutofbreath

😂 You are most generous with your winter, thank you so much!

I really don’t mind the cold etc but admit to being a southern softy. What annoys me though is how three flakes of flipping snow can bring London to a standstill and headlines saying “snowmaggedon!” Etc. Pffft.

Fact: I once got sunburned in Glasgow.

My partner is Scottish, and after a warm sunny day yesterday, he said “we’ll pay for this later”. And now I am looking out of my window as big flakes of snow are falling down. Meh.

"What annoys me though is how three flakes of flipping snow can bring London to a standstill and headlines saying “snowmaggedon!” Etc. Pffft." << Oh yeah, I mean with the photos they chose on some of the front pages no wonder all the Canadians and Norwegians et al. took to Twitter to take the p*** out of us :'( It's all relative though isn't it, much easier to deal with something if it's a common occurrence for you!

Hey! It's doing that annoying thing where it's not telling me when you post!!

New clothing is exiting isn't it? There's a runners world not too far from me that does gait analysis, so I'm planning a visit to stock up in the not too distant future.

And summer? It's supposed to be spring for goodness sake. What has happened? I sneaked out for a run earlier, and it was actually 10°C out and sunny. Wow! The canal towpath was still rather boggy though, so I had to content myself with the hilly roads.

Really pleased that you're keeping going with this. How are you finding the positive mental health thing? For me, it's been nothing short of amazing!

Sadie-runs profile image
Sadie-runsGraduate in reply to

Can you sort this out in your settings, or is it a random glitch? The app for this site was very glitchy yesterday...

Yay! Glad you got out for a run yesterday, good lad. I wish I had - it’s 7am and am looking at the snow coming down, pep talking myself into getting out.

You know, I have not had any extended periods of depression since I started running. It does feel miraculous. The only time I feel low is when I cannot get out for a run! It truly is helping; doctors should prescribe C25K for depression, they really should. I am so happy it is helping you, too, Neil.

Happy weekend, buddy.

So looking forward to running in the warm weather as all my running so far has been in autumn and winter. I wonder what it's like running in the warm 😉

Not sure these legs will ever run in shorts though 😂

Enjoy your running this weekend

Sadie-runs profile image
Sadie-runsGraduate in reply toCornet-Carolyn

Just back and did not enjoy it one bit. 🙁 Icy shards of snow whipping in my face to the point where I had to shut my eyes! I was warm enough, but breathing hard and only managed 4K. Meh! Bring on summer! I started in August last year and loved the warm early morns, Carolyn. x

Thanks! And yes, a run is a run...and I feel good now at least I am home in the warm. 😀 x

Shorts?!!! UA stuff is very nice (esp in the sale) but the only time I'll ever be wearing shorts is if they come down to my ankles! :) Mind you, I never thought I'd be wearing lycra, so miracles do happen! Well done on braving it out there today, in spite of the snow.

Sadie-runs profile image
Sadie-runsGraduate in reply toFishypieface

It was not cheap, but such good quality and a lovely fit. Bought some cheap stuff elsewhere and it was thin and horrible and just didn’t fit me well. 🙁 Had to send it back.

Shorts down to ankles = you mean trousers then, Fishy?! 😂 I actually don’t care what people think of me legs anymore - they are strong and I can run with them, meh to anyone judging me!

Today’s run was my least favourite EVER but I still don’t regret it. 😀

Happy weekend dearest FPF. 🐠🥧😊

Good on you Sadie, I love your attitude! I bet you look fabulous in your shorts - a true runner!

Meh to anyone judging me in my lycra at my gym induction day then too... gulp. Enjoy the snow! :(

Sadie-runs profile image
Sadie-runsGraduate in reply toFishypieface

Good luck for your induction! I am sure it will be fine. Go you! A runner and a gym bunny now! Good god woman you are putting me to shame. 😀

Fishypieface profile image

Am not running at the mo :( ...... due to arsecheek-itis! :) Am hoping the gym will strengthen me up to run again - and help me lose weight. I am very self-conscious, but I need to do something. Fingers crossed I survive! Thanks for your support lovely Sadie xx

Sadie-runs profile image
Sadie-runsGraduate in reply toFishypieface

🙁 Arsecheek-itis = piriformis syndrome? If so, figure of four stretch sorted out my arse-cheek pain.

The gym is a great idea! Get them to give you exercises for glutes and core - this seems to have straightened me out, injury wise, and I have been reading about the benefits of a muscly arse for runners. Helps stabilise pelvis, and a stabilised pelvis can prevent all manner of ills. 😊 Wishing you a speedy recovery my dear. xxx

Fishypieface profile image
FishypiefaceGraduate in reply toSadie-runs

Yes it is that! Thanks for your very helpful info :)

My arse used to be muscly many years ago, it's kept the size but not the muscle!! :) xx

Irishprincess saved my running life by telling me about the Figure of Four stretch! And you will get your arse muscles back, I am sure. 💪😀 xxx

I think it’ll be Ron Hills, Hellyhansen, running jacket and gloves tomorrow for me. It’s absolutely Baltic here. Plus I wouldn’t want to cause drivers to crash with being dazzled by my ultra white pegs. Roll on summer! 😊

Sadie-runs profile image
Sadie-runsGraduate in reply toCDA1

Am self-tanning my dazzling my very white pins like a woman possessed at the moment. Want my shorts debut to go well. Everyone told me to wear my shorts today but Jesus, it really was flipping cold. I wore my extra warm running tights and still suffered! Enjoy your run tomorrow!

Ha ha I did think about the old gravy browning method but knowing me it would come out lumpy. So waiting patiently for the sun. (Hears old clock ticking) I saw all the ‘get your shorts on it’s good for circulation’ comments. Too right bugger that for a game of soldiers. W1R3 tomorrow- I’m polishing my crampons as we speak 😂
