Not what I thought the article would be about! I thought plogging was a fine term for my running style, a combination of plodding and jogging 🤣

Dhiny and I talk about doing this, it sounds like a good idea

I agree MrsP - am just about coming round to the idea - especially as could combine with squats. It would have to be an exception though as requires extreme faffing re equipment and care in not tripping over litter picker. Etc 😏

Dhiny and I are thinking of getting those grabby things to pick up the ickier stuff, we also decided to take a black bag and sort the recycling when we finish the run

I have picked up the odd bit of rubbish when running so far (but only when there is a bin right there, as it irks me to see litter a few feet from a perfectly functional bin) but I can't see myself going out equipped with a bag etc. That said it wouldn't be a bad thing if all runners conspired to do this in Rome, considering how messy and dirty it often gets, sadly.

Maybe declare a Rubbish Run occasionally

There is a uk group already called RAR. Runners against Rubbish and they organise events to meet up and do litter sweeps. Not sure if they run whilst doing so though

I regularly stop to pick up rubbish and bawl out folks I see dropping it

I had to laugh, I was walking the dog the other day and he was plodding behind me proudly carrying a pizza box in his jaws . It still had pizza in it 🙄 😃😁

I wouldn't be able to find a sack big enough or be strong enough to carry it with the amount of rubbish where I live/run, God only knows what people visiting Newcastle must think once they venture a little off the beaten track! (or what to council use the tax for)

Sounds depressing

I tell em. Where it is and what it is. We have a walking festival coming up so they are wanting to make a good impression and get stuff tidied up. When I see it I report it. The council can’t be everywhere but they do respond if you point out an issue. As I walk and run all over the area I see more than most

Our local GoodGym group does litter picking runs. I'd really like to join one day!
