Head pain!!!: Hi, does anyone suffer from head... - Couch to 5K
Head pain!!!
No that sounds quite bizarre. Do you or have you ever been checked for blood pressure issues, or do you get tension headaches/ neck pain etc?
I can get horrendous headaches with dehydration although they don't subside quickly for me.
Sounds more like a tension headache, are you stressing at all about your runs before you get out there to do them?
You should be proud, you're doing great and congratulations on w5 r3! That's a big one! ๐ช๐๐๐๐๐
Thank you ๐x maybe, never thought I could run ๐โโ๏ธ but now Iโve managed 20mins I feel more confident so less stressed?? We will see x ๐๐๐๐ thanks again xx
Me too, 20 mins seemed impossible, but look where we are!
Maybe try some breathing exercises before you head out, count to 4 on the in and breathe out for 4. Bring your arms out and up and if poss bend over and let your shoulders hang on the out.
Or even shoulder lifts and drops, just try and drop away that tension before you start. ๐๐
Well done with the 20 mins, Are you hunching your shoulders up when you start running? You could be causing tension across the shoulders into the neck causing headache, make sure you drop your shoulders bring them back with chest out but stay relaxed, hang loose..๐
Thank you that sounds like good advice x I never thought of that. Fingers crossed ๐ xx
You could as davelinks suggests, be, holding yourself tensely... Relax into the runs now, let your legs find their happy pace... you are doing wonderfully...
Pull back, and shake out your hands and fingers...relax your shoulders, and your face... smile and enjoy. You are doing just fine
๐ thank you x canโt wait for my next run๐โโ๏ธ got the bug now ๐ xx
Having not long had to see my GP about migraines, the biggest thing she mentioned is hydration - she told me to start there to work out what may be causing them. Particularly if you run first thing in the morning - I just used to have a mug of tea and go out, but she suggested slowly sipping a lot more water throughout the day
I now drink a lot more water and the numbers of headaches/migraines have decreased significantly. I believe the phrase goes something like hydrate today for your run tomorrow.
Hydration is a factor with migraine, I get them, usually when not drinking enough water.. get aural disturbance, maybe with blind spot in eyes, then the headache.. thankfully they are few & far between..
Sorry to hear that. Can Discover on HealthUnlocked and appropriate community not shed anymore light on this subject for you.
Yes of course, but since the consultation only one migraine...
As a self confessed lizard - maybe itโs years of not hydrating enough finally catching up with me
Now that is funny. ๐๐Have suggested to Eliza Mai that as a possible avenue. Sorry from an over concerned dinasur.Just a little bit bigger than a lizard.๐๐๐ But luckily not around anymore.๐๐
No itโs fine - it was really interesting Iโd been keeping a food diary and all the migraine triggers were on it, cheese, dairy, chocolate, red wine. Iโd even almost stopped the red wine - shock horror and when the doctor looked at it. She asked me about liquid consumption - well other than tea (typical Brit me) and some coffees - water doesnโt feature much - a glass or two a day in Winter and she suggested that hydration could be an issue.I thought it was alcohol, not that Iโm a big drinker but Iโd tied in the worst headaches with wine. But then I had a week without alcohol and the migraines continued - so back to the drawing board.
Iโm not sure itโs the only thing, but funnily enough one migraine in 2 weeks, compared to about one every other day.. Apparently it's a complex mix and triggers arenโt necessarily singular and can be combinations. Tough job being a GP!
I wrote an epistle to Eliza Mai,๐.Do not know if you have seen it under her post๐ค Just Trying to be helpful.
As you know alcohol de hydrates you anyway๐ค
50 years ago worked in the Gulf building and running a Smelter.Temp 120 deg F shaded and 100%humidity. We took daily SALT tablets. We did not ease off on the alcohol neither.๐๐๐๐ค
I was a bit of a lizard then too.๐๐Taken years to learn how to look after myself.Only got one brain cell and itโs lonely.๐๐๐๐
Cannot remember now But was a big interest 10- 20 years back on consuming litres of water per day. People wrote books on the subject๐ค๐Maybe important.๐
Tricky business around the head stuff.
When you get told of your pension, they donโt tell you it comes with conditions, medical ones๐๐๐
I have a friend , he is a bit of a hypo condi, when his friends ask him how he is , he replies , how long have you got.๐ค๐๐๐
Thank you ๐ I will try that too! ๐โโ๏ธ
I do not have headaches, and agree with all the above.Hydrate for tomorrow and then some more ,I always have my Grand fathers ( thatโs me)water bottle with me,posture, over years I have let my head fall forward and not supported as it should, MJโs drop and relaxed shoulders just naturally lifts your head up, look 30- 40 yds ahead, this also opens up your chest and allows you to take in more oxygen, as has been said remind yourself to relax your face muscles shoulders arms and hands. Arms 90 deg and at side of body and propelling forward not across your body.Hands open not clenched.Do nothing that brings tension into your neck or anywhere and reduce blood flow.Head still, forward and up, no head movement.Even during warm ups and stretching do not raise your head in any jerky movements๐ค
Sorry about this detail, but if this exercise related you want to put your finger on it, before having to go along the medical route.๐ค
I suffered with Hypertension, not knowing , no headaches, over 25 years ago had an aneurysm behind one of my eyes, lost forever my central vision, even today no repair possible.Have to take care not to put my head below my heart. Additional pressure damaging small blood vessels. No more heavy lifting.I take clopidogrel and simvistatin for safety daily and to lower the risk of any reoccurrence on my other side.
This is not intended to alarm you, and I could say much more.I am a senior person responsible for me and very savvy how to look after myself. If anything happened on my other side I would be blind.I already have had a temporary transitional loss of sight about 3 years ago.TIA.
I am trying to say to you without asking questions,I am not a medic, but a very experienced person who has fought back and refused to be wrapped up in cotton wool.
Nuerologically, and with infrequent๐คheadaches try visiting one of the appropriate communities on HealthUnlocked.
Hopefully it is related to your exercise preparation routine and therefore can be fixed with a small tweak/change in your practise.
If not ,medically it maybe neuralgia,Nueropathy, ENT,gosh many things related.Do not stress, there is a fix whether it is physio or your GP.
In this area we can now self referr to a physio and they can give excellent advise.
Try joining the appropriate forum on HealthUnlocked.Perhaps you can be pointed to an appropriate community. It will /may give you peace of mind, initially.
Hope you continue to enjoy your running.
This as it says in no way interferes with your relationship with your GP.
Sincerely just trying to help.

Important to put your finger on why the headaches.Maybe something very simple.
I have a nighly knee and convinced now it is due to awkwardly getting in and out of the car inside a very narrow garage.๐๐๐๐
