Sore feet and physio

Before I have started running I have always been plagued with sore feet. I never used to like buying shoes because I could never really find any comfortable ones. Since running I have always had tight calves even though I stretched and I could never envisage running more than half an hour because after that my feet were sore. Anyway after I went for a walk for no more than 1 hour 20 minutes my feet were really burning. They do seem to be getting worse. Well after reading back comments on here about other people I bit the bullet and went to see a physio last night. I paid myself as I wanted to get this sorted ASAP. Well I found out my toes, ankles and calves are stiff. So she has given me some exercises to do which I will do and I go back in a fortnight. I am so looking forward to being able to walk comfortably. I know everyone is different but how long do you think this could take? Or how long as it taken others to get there problems sorted.

Well done on going and seeing the physio. No idea how long it’ll take to see an improvement - I guess it probably depends a lot on how thoroughly you do the recommended exercises etc. Hopefully this is the start of more comfortable legs for you!

I should say every issue is different.

Be guided by your physio, you are paying for their expertise so use it.

The exercises are key, make sure you are doing them exactly as instructed.

Good luck!

Tight calves is probably the most common complaint for new runners. It’s all in the calves so it’s not surprising they protest

The tendon goes under your feet too so we get sore feet. If you have proper running shoes, and socks, that’s a good start. Do your exercises religiously. I enjoyed my physio as it makes you feel you are taking positive steps to heal yourself and get back to running If you are doing a calf lift with an ankle, drop do them very slowly, going up as far as you can and then slow lower, where you can feel stretch. It feels very good 😃

Good luck with it
