W7r3 Outside!

I bit the bullet and ran outside! It was such a beautiful sunny day. Although weather so lovely, I found it quite difficult. My hips really ached. I was sooooo slow, but I did it. Up this morning and hips still ache. I've been wondering if I should go back a few weeks and restart outside, or continue from where I am now and finish the next two weeks.

Well done, you, for daring to go out! As for your dilemma, if you think about it, what was the most enjoyable, running on the treadmill or running outside? If your hips are hurting, it's rather normal since it's harder to run outside. But if you stretch well on rest days (15 mns or 30 mns routine) and drink a lot, you should soon feel no pain. Get an extra-rest day before your next runs and see how you go. Good luck!

Thanks Anthie. Running outside, feeling wise, was nicer, but the running was harder. I did my normal stretches afterwards, but I will do more today. I usually run Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday so I will have a rest day today and tomorrow. Do you think I should continue with week 8 or revert back to week 5/6?

Go on with week 8, you haven't failed any runs!! Just as ebcroquet says, slow down, and try to land as gently as possible on the ground. For your hips, there are special stretches. Try a few ones, doing them twice a day and see how you feel. Breathing is extremely important while you stretch: slow and deep breathing. Have a look at this page recommended by Oldfloss: active.com/running/Articles...

Since you have enjoyed running outside, I would try and persevere. Taking an extra-rest day should help with legs and hips.

I think if I slowed down any more I'd be running on the spot! Lol! I'll def look at oldfloss recommendation.

Well done I’m at a similar stage and get aching hips (along with other bits) I just take an extra rest day so leave either two or even three days gap, I still walk for 30 mins on rest days, but I’ve made it to week 8 this way. And as they say keep your pace steady and don’t over stride. I run with a shorter stride than my walks!

As I said, I think if I shorten my stride or go any slower, I'll be going backwards 😜 I won't run till Tuesday and might chance outside again.
