Just completed this run and found it to be the hardest so far! My calf muscles were killing, my hip was aching and then my inner thighs joined in the pain. Really hope this gets easier 😳😳

Well done, but there is no need to push hard.

Have you read the guide to the plan? healthunlocked.com/couchto5... which explains all the details.

Stick with it, you get stronger, the demands increase, but you will do this.

Maybe go slower if you’re in pain? Did you warm up with dynamic stretching?

I did go slower when the pain came and got through it. I haven't run before and think my body is in shock 😂 I have to admit I didn't warm up and need to read up on a few stretches before the 5 min warm up walk I think x

Well done for completing week one. Do read IannodaTruffe’s guide, following the link he posted in his reply. Do run slowly, and even slower than you think is slow! And try taking two rest days between runs if you need them, to give yourself more recovery and strengthening time. You CAN do this 😄

I also did w1r3 last night and have also never run before. It killed me, although I tackled a couple of hills last night whereas I was running on flat ground before. I hope this is the reason because I feel like I was worse than my first run!

Well, we both completed it at least and I'm trying to think positively today by telling myself I've done 1 week which is a better position than where I was this time last week 👏👏

This is very true! Well done on completing week one!

I think a lot of us felt like that. I thought I was going to keel over on week 1, having never run in my life and the aches/pains...ouch. I could hardly walk. People keep saying run slower but if I did that I'd be running on the spot (you couldn't go any slower than me!). I've just finished week 5, so honestly, if I can do it, anyone can. Keep going 😁

Thanks for those words of support, hearing people's successs stories definitely helps with motivation.

I also just did W1R3, on Friday, and it was so hard. There was a hill which nearly killed me, I definitely didn't recover my breath in the 1.5 minutes after, my breath felt like knives jabbing in my stomach and chest and I couldn't have gone slower. Let's face it, I wasn't running I was doing a sort of suspended shuffling action which does however move one slightly forwards! Today should be W2R1 but I am thinking of repeating week 1 before moving on, is that a good approach or not? I haven't lost heart and I will do this but right now it's HARD!

I think I'm going to try and move into Wk2 and see how it goes. Definitely going to try the dynamic exercises before heading off next time though.

Haha shuffle sounds funny! I was told on here not to repeat runs unless you hadn’t managed to do the run. I did repeat week 3 though before I knew you weren’t supposed to. I reckon your shuffle counts as doing it so think you can move on to week 2! You can do it !

I'd avoid hills if I were you to start with. I repeated week 4 as I found it very hard but if you try to continue you might surprise yourself, so why not just try week 2 and see how you go (without hills! 😁). I also do a slightly longer than 5 mins warm up and have a good stretch before I start the run.

Oh how your post made me chuckle about the “suspended shuffling”.. that’s me 100% ... I dread to think what I look like. I was really apprehensive about doing W2R1 as found last week hard enough. But I did it - it nearly killed me but I did it. I don’t see it getting any better at the moment but I shall do my best. Wishing you all the best 😊

Okeydoke thanks guys I will move onto week2 then...on Tuesday tho cos I did week1 again today so that's 4 altogether for W1. Today was better (no hills!) so maybe I can manage W2. I'm just carrying a lot of extra weight, so I feel like Michelin man, not a good look or feeling!!

Fairly similar for me. Completed w1 r3 this pm v slowly and carefully as i pinged my Achilles tendon 10 days ago which made my lower calf muscle v sore. Hoped it had healed but apparently not. 😕

Well, I've been working today and talking to one of my colleagues who runs 10ks. I was explaining my agony and to my delight (I know that sounds bad 😂) she told me she'd run yesterday and had really struggled, so I guess we all have our good days and bad days. X

It does get easier but keep it gentle. You'll be amazed in a few weeks 👍

Thought I would pop in to say hi as I ran W1R3 today as well - very slowly - and I'm a bit (a lot) achey too!

It's all relative I guess. Half an hour doing this sure feels more effort than 30mins on the cross trainer in the gym (without stopping) - why is that???
