Hi,
I have just run W8R2 and have somehow cut my mins per km. Normally it is around 9 mins.
I am interested to know what everyone else’s is as I have said I will do a 5k plod on Boxing Day and worried I will be the slowest
Thanks
Hi,

Why are you worried about being the slowest? don't be! It's just great that you're out there doing it, you're a newbie doing c25k forget about pace for now, remember, slow and steady!😊
Garmin gives me min/mile. No idea what km/mile I'm doing. davelinks is absolutely right though. You are out running when other people are sitting around wishing they had the motivation to do some exercise. Don't worry about pace. I doubt you'll be the slowest.
I did W8R1 this morning and my pace was 8:39/Km. I got overtaken by a guy that must have been close to 80!
I worry it's too slow too, but I think you have to listen to the many voices of experience here.
Some will be slower than you others faster and we are all slower than Mo Farah. Knowing the pace of forum members is not going to make the slightest difference to whether or not you are last or first in your 5k run and it is irrelevant to whether your running is doing you any good.
It is human nature to compare yourself to others, but on this forum we have runners from their teens to their eighties, with just about every physical disability and condition represented, so who are you comparing yourself to and to what purpose.
Forget about pace, relax and enjoy your running and you will probably live longer, according to this article womensrunning.competitor.co...
Never worry about being slow as slow is good! Just have fun doing the run 🏃♀️
I am usually at the back. My very fit and fast son runs Parkrun in half my time. Worry not on such things!
Us slower runners have lots of fun and I am proud to say we are kind enough to come last which means others don’t need to.
Enjoy!
I do agree with all replies to you. I am possibly the slowest on my park run but I gave up worrying about that on my second one today. I really don’t care how fast I’m going, staying the course is key. I want to be posting on here in a years time not lying by the roadside having worn myself out trying to be faster than my body is ready for . Good luck and enjoy your run you’ll get encouragement from the volunteers whether you’re going at the speed of light or jogging past them slowly but with smile
I just completed my first Parkrun with my triathlete daughter yesterday. We were last, but she did not bat an eyelid knowing this and laughed when she said “I’ve never seen the pack in front of me before!”
It was utterly brilliant and although I had to walk the steep hills, I managed a good place on the flat. It’s about getting out there and running; people were so supportive. There were people with dogs and children, all in Christmas gear, laughing and singing as they ran through mud and light rain.
Don’t worry about pace; it’s all about the taking part.
Happy Christmas, everybody!
What does it matter.... you are a runner... running at your own pace..This is your journey, sp just enjoy it and have fun
I am slow and more. I do worry about my speed when I see all those gracious gazelle flying by and I try fanatically to shave a second or two. Stupid I know but it means a lot to me.
7.7 was my best but unfortunately after coming across other priorities in my life and missing on runs, I am back in the 9, and this morning I was even 10.1 !!! I must have had head wind.
But I have a goal and it is to go back to 7.7 before I reach my “use by date”
The tailwalker is always last at Parkrun - and they are classed as completing the Parkrun - given a run credit towards milestone T-Shirts etc. Don't worry about your speed, at least you are out there - DOING IT - and I'm sure you feel better for it
Thank you for all of your comments.
I had completed week 8 today so Boxing Day will be the start of my final week.
Looking forward to it - first 5k here I come x
