Really hard start

So I haven't ran for at least a decade and am well overweight but cant believe how hard Wk1 R1 was. Had to split each run into half and was still gasping. Got my second attempt today. Hopefully it starts to get easier combined with a diet

Me too, i thought i was going to die in week one. You will be surprised at how fast you progress. Honestly. Youve taken the biggest step in starting - it's going to get easier.

It will definitely get easier. This is the hardest part and you've already done it. Well done!

Well done -the worst is over! I'm not suggesting there won't be challenging runs ahead but W1R1 is far and away the biggest hurdle. Keep at it and you will surprise yourself. Good luck!

Well done. I started run/walking only once round the field for several months before I started the C25k programme but still found the actual 30 minute length was really tough, ie week one took me TWICE round the field and that seemed much harder work. As Flick says, it will get easier quicker than you think. Good luck!

Welcome and well done on getting started.

The commonest mistake for new runners is trying to go too fast. A gentle jog is all your body needs to stimulate changes to your body. If you are gasping then you are going too fast. Slow down until you can hold a conversation, without any gasping. healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Repeat any run that you cannot complete, after a rest day, then, when completed, move on.

Always take your rest days.

Keep posting and enjoy your journey.

Thank you all. Just attempted run 2 which we t better. On run 1 I didn't manage 1 continuous run over 30 seconds. Today I managed 1x60 second run 6x45sec runs and 1x 30seconds which is and improvement and went from 4 minutes of running on run 1 to 6 minutes on run 2 which I am extremely happy about. Obviously I am not making the actually full target yet but will just keep repeating it until i can consistently meet the full target
