Park Run....Hmmm....

So, in search of some inspiration (Really cant be bothered at the mo...), i have just registered for my 1st ParkRun on Saturday.

Rarely get Saturdays off, due to the little one's football commitments, but this is the first free Saturday of the year...so gonna give it a whirl....it should coincide with my Week 9 Run 1 or 2.

I found it a real boost to run with others. Just remeber that everyone is different and don't compare yourself to others. You are still very new to this running lark. Many people 10-20 years older than me are able to run faster than I do, but I enjoy taking part in a group activity. I love running on my own, but running in a pack is good fun too.

Thank you - i have literally no expectations at the mo, it was more just to try and get me to get my arse in gear! :-)

Ha. So true. Many people at mine are twice my age and finished and back at the cafe before I'm anywhere near the end. And conversely, children that barely come up to my waist go racing by. All good fun though.

Scott - I think you'll have a blast.

What the others say!!!

Parkrun is brilliant, supportive and welcoming, also non judgemental.

You may get overtaken by eight year olds and eighty year olds.........they have probably been running longer than you, so just enjoy the experience.

I will be surprised if you don't love it.

You can register your club as NHS C25K.

Don't forget to take your barcode.

Don't let that post put you off though. Stick to the programme. Walk run your way round and enjoy it. I like running alone but park run is a whole different thing. It keeps me motivated post graduation and I am getting to know people chatting over a coffee after.

Come on Scott...you are on Week 9, this is exciting stuff...Parkrun might be just want you need to inspire you, however please do as everyone has suggested and follow the c25kplan properly with your warm up walk, and go steady at your own pace..walk if you need to... OR

Its still fine to do the run as you usually do too, new routes, new playlists all change things up and keep it fresh ...

Have fun😊x

Hi Scott, I did Park Run when I was on week 8 but did take heed of advice here. It was great, so warm & welcoming and so so supportive-it didn’t put me off my C25K focus and it’s given me something to work towards now I’ve graduated (I’m consolidating at mo)

The only thing I’d say is now I have a time from ParkRun I’ve scared myself that I’ll be slower next time 😬, not a problem really other than I’ve gotten competitive with myself🙈.

I’m sure you’ll enjoy it, it’s great watching people of all ages, shapes and sizes wiz by you and shout out encouragement 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👟👟

Go for it I say. I did my first Parkrun last Saturday, I didn’t think about it too much until that morning and even then I nearly didn’t go. Whatever the outcome you’ll be so pleased you gave it a go. Promise!

Thank you - struggling a bit with this Week 8 - really cant find the energy, so fingers crossed ParkRun will see me through it.

If it doesn’t just repeat it and don’t worry about it at all.

in reply to Sadeskin

Thank you - will let you know how it goes!

Well done on signing up for the park run - I hope it helps with the mojo.

It's difficult to find the energy to run when it's cold, wet and dark outside but you've missed this opportunity once through circumstances beyond your control - this time round the circumstances are well within your control, and you'd be gutted if you didn't get that graduation under your belt.

Come on, buddy, you CAN do this - you are nearly there..!! ...and we're all behind you (giving you that extra 'nudge' up the rear)..!! ;)

in reply to HeadInTheClouds

Hey - hands off the rear... ;-)

Yeah i think my mojo is slowly coming back, went out last night, and did another 25 mins, due to some aches/pains (Need to have a good look at my trainers, as they suddenly feel strange!) Gonna go out again tomorrow, and then will hang fire for ParkRun on Saturday, and will either use that as a chance to do W8R3, or W9R1, will see how i feel, and how my trainers feel!

How are you doing Graduate!!!!

I was opting for a feet not hands - you should be so lucky..!! ;)

Oh, that's weird. Do you think there's a bit of weight redistribution due to your iffy ankle..?? ... or just an excuse for new shoes..??

Glad you've managed to get out there and keep going and REALLY please the mojo is coming back :) Keep going (slothly).

Yep, all good here, thank you. Just about recovered from the 'horror' of Saturday. Going to head out for a trit-trot tonight methinks ;)

in reply to HeadInTheClouds

Im not sure what it is, its not sore, just suddenly a little bit uncomfortable, and distracting, and cant figure out why. Im going to re-lace them all tonight (i had messed with the lacing when i read an article on how to lace your shoes for what kind of feet you have...).

Will see how that goes! Good look tonight, 1st run post-grad....the world is your oyster!

Oh dear, I reckon they're the culprits :(

Thank you - it'll just be a crawl (hopefully, having learnt my lesson)..!!

Good luck with the re-lacing ;)
