Clicky knees

Hello all.

Just after some advice please.... I graduated last week, and so far this week I've done 2 x 30 min runs. However, this week I seem to have developed clicking knees (above knee cap). It's not painful, but occurs when I stand up from sitting or kneel.... is this something to worry about? I'm due to run tomorrow and don't want to cause any damage!

Thanks 👍🏃‍♀️

If you are without pain then this is nothing to worry about and is quite normal. It can be a symptom of wear and tear or ageing. You may well find that it disappears as you exercise more.

Thanks for advice.... weird how it's just started, but hopefully it's nothing to worry about 👍

I have the same. Took me a while to realise it was my knees not the floor. I was worried and found a running specialist physio near work but their website had some useful information including that clicking knees is not a problem unless they also hurt. So I am ignoring mine. The knee strengthening exercises seem to make the clicking worse so I am a bit wary of them. But I find the clicking comes and goes and isn't a problem.

Thanks.... I'll be out running first thing tomorrow so hopefully it won't go any worse. I've never experienced it before, it's a weird feeling as I expect it to hurt when I feel / hear the clicks!! Fingers crossed 👍

Get I checked out but could be a number of things

Make sure you’re hydrated and your legs are warm before you run fast on them

Remember to wrap up now the cold weather is here it’s too cold now for shorts you need to keep your muscles and joints warm to perform and prevent damage

My physio told me clicking is good- it’s a sign that your joints are releasing stiffness.

Great! Still clicking, but still pain free! Hope it stays that way 👍
