Shin splints 😣

Hi. I've just done the 1st run of my 2nd week of C25K. I have shin splints, have had them for over 25yrs! So have stayed away from running. But so many friends are doing this so I wanted to.

I'm sitting here with ice packs on my legs and am in absolute agony. Do I stop now or has anyone got any idea how to get rid of shin splints (if possible)? Thanks!

Did you go really really slowly?

Shin splint is about weak calves. Slow things right down, when you feel you can run again. Calf raises, foot lifts, heel drops with calf lift - all done very slowly but low as you can then High as you can

If your pain persists see your gp. I wouldn't run if you're in that amount of pain. Ice is fantastic., anti inflammatories take a while to kick in so,near that in mind

I hope it gets better for you. We advise very slow running for the programme to allow you to build strength in your legs

But, we re not exerts on here and if you have had this issue for so long, maybe get the GP or sports physio to check you out first!
